The Historic Orchard at Altapass

While on vacation in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina this summer we visited the Historic Orchard at Altapass.  You can see my husband and son entering the building in this picture.  Inside we could smell apple pie baking ~ wonderful!  This was a delightful stop on our drive.  There is a magnificent view from the back of the building.  The inside is stocked with homemade jellies and jams, apples (in season), ice cream, and they also have live music performances.

I love their Apple Tree quilt block - how perfect!  They grow a huge variety of apples here (40 or so I believe).  The orchard also has walking trails you can take to see the orchards.

Have a wonderful day,

McDowell County, North Carolina Quilt Trail

I was editing some pictures from a summer trip this morning and came across these quilt blocks from the McDowell County, North Carolina quilt trail, so I'm sharing them today.
This first one was out in the countryside, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Another shot from the country drive, guardrail included.

These blocks are on the side of a brick building in downtown Marion, North Carolina.

Quilt blocks are everywhere in Marion.  I'm assuming this was on some kind of government building.

Another drive by photo - a little blurry, but too pretty to leave out!

Really cool!  Birds, mountains, and a sunrise or sunset.

I hope you enjoyed it!

Have a wonderful day,

Quilting in the Blue Ridge

Two more quilt blocks on the McDowell County, North Carolina quilt trail.  This one is in Marion, NC.  I believe it is on an assisted living center.

This one is lovely, too.  Also in Marion.  Sorry, I do not know which building this is.

I brought along my 1940 Featherweight for a little evening stitching.  After all, I don't have 25 sewing machines for nothing!  Ha!ha!

It was crowded on the little kitchen table, but the lighting was good.  I sewed some small pinwheel blocks for an upcoming project.

Summertime and the Flowers are Hot!Hot!Hot!

It's June, and you can feel it the instant you step outside.  Summer has arrived with a high of 99 today.  I will be floating in the pool this afternoon.   A few summer flowers are blooming today, despite the heat.  I love these tall lacy wildflowers in my front garden bed.

A few roses and orange lilies are tucked into a shady corner by the old stone chimney.  I can also see the green leafy foliage of my fall Mums, a promise of Thanksgiving blooms yet to come.

A pop of bright yellow lilies and a few more orange lilies gracing the front of the greenhouse.  Hot outside, even hotter inside.
