Basket Cats Series Second Block is Here

The second block pattern in the Basket Cat series is ready and in the Curlicue Creations shop now!  Square in a Square Cat Quilt Block pattern is a paper pieced pattern.  It makes a finished size 12" square block.  This is the second block pattern in a series of twelve.  Collect them all to make a cute kitty sampler quilt.

Vintage shopping this week netted this old quilt book from 1979, "The 7-Day Quilt" by Josephine Rogers.  I love the kitty on the cover - so cute!  It's so much fun to pick up older quilt books for my library.  You can really see how much quilting methods have evolved over time.

I also found this cute chair made out of twigs and maybe some grapevine or something for Pepper Mint's best friend, Belinda.  Now they each have their own little chair for quilty chats and coffee.

Until next time...keep on quilting...visit the Curlicue Creations shop...and have a super day!

Button Dolly's Name Revealed!

Pepper Mint posing with the Lots of Love Quilted Trivet

Congratulations to Cora, the winner of the Name the Button Dolly contest I had in conjunction with The Quilting Gallery. So many wonderful names were suggested, that it was hard to choose, but Cora's Pepper Mint was unique, creative, and fit her perfectly.  Thanks so much to you all!

Wreaths 'round the year

Beautiful Bargello

Celtic Cut and Use Stencils

These three marvy crafting books have been added to the Curlicue Creations shop.  The wreath book has a H-U-G-E variety of wreath making ideas, plus some basics, if you are a beginner.  The bargello book is for needlepoint designs.  Absolutely  breathtakingly beautiful photos in this book.  The Celtic Cut and Use Stencils is full of designs suitable for many different crafts.  All three books are gorgeous!  Stop by and take a look.

Ice Pellets Quilt

I also spent some time working on the Ice Pellets quilt this week.  I finally finished the machine quilting and got half of the binding on, too!  Hooray!  I love to watch a movie when sewing binding on.  This time, Gavin and I watched the Two Towers movie, part 2 of the Lord of the Rings series.  Spellbinding.

Heart Blocks

I worked on these 12 heart blocks for the old Christmas Quilt Block of the Month UFO that I'm trying to do this year.  Maybe it will be finished by Christmas?  Maybe.

Blue Dollhouse Railings

I started working on the railings for the blue dollhouse, too.  Pepper Mint's best friend, Belinda lives in this home and she is afraid to sit on the balcony because there is no railing.  I really need to do this for her, so she can enjoy her morning coffee from up above.

Dollhouse Front Door

Pepper Mint has been out house-hunting, too.  She found a lovely old farmhouse in great need of repairs!  It is not in livable condition, yet, but I'm working on it for her.  Here's a lovely set of front doors for her home that I made out of a picture frame.  She is going for the storybook cottage look.

Until next time....have a super day!

A Multitude of Fabric!

Lots of Love Quilted Trivet

This week I made the Lots of Love Quilted Trivet.  This should hit the Curlicue Creations shop soon!  It's the perfect size for those 8" x 8" square brownie pans.  Mmmmmm!  Get baking!

I also hit it big with the thrift store shopping this week!  I found this huge bin of quilting fabric.

Plus all this quilting fabric that was in a large plastic bag.

Plus, these lovely fat quarters, that I just couldn't resist.  Time to get busy!

Guest Blogger at The Quilting Gallery this Week!

 Checkerboard Cat Quilt Block

Heads up, everyone!  This week, on January 11th, I will be the guest blogger at The Quilting Gallery.  This is a really great site to connect with other quilters the world over.  If you haven't visited the Quilting Gallery before, be sure to take a peek!  I will be having a giveaway of one of my quilt patterns on my guest blog post, too.

 Tin Miniature Birdhouse

This week  I worked on one of my three dollhouses a little bit.  It was fun!  I hung this tiny, tin birdhouse up on the front porch of the blue dollhouse.  I'm sure the miniature birds will be here to make a nest this spring.  I wonder what kind they will be?  Bluebirds?  Chickadees?  Carolina Wrens?  That's what we usually get at my house.

 New Bathroom Cabinet

I hung a new bathroom cabinet in the teeny, tiny bathroom, too.  It's hard to see in the photo, but there's some old fashioned shaving supplies inside, a brush, and a bowl.  Cute!  I cracked the teeny, tiny, bathtub, while I was doing this, but I glued it back together and glued the soap on the soap dish, too.  Kind of looks like a real bathroom in the photo, eh?

Queen Anne Serving Table, Circa 1740-1750

I started on this kit of  a Queen Anne Serving Table.  It went together nicely.  There's a shell pattern on the front that should stand out better when I get some wood stain on it.  It has a genuine white marble top, made out of genuine white marble material, too.  I'll show it with the top on when it's all completed.

 Rusty Ole' Iron

I was in the middle of working on my super, secret project this week when my iron broke. Zut Alors!  Not quite  as badly as the one in the photo, but it sure wasn't heating up and doing it's job!  Good thing I have an iron collection.  I just whipped out another one and started pressing away.  I always knew that iron collection would be good for something other than doorstops someday.

Fusible Hearts

And I worked a little bit on the Christmas Block of the Month quilt.  I mean just a little, little bit!  I cut out 12 Heat and Bond Lite fusible hearts for the Heart Blocks.  That's it.  I mean, it was Wild Card Weekend in the NFL!  I know it's weird, but I just gotta watch football.  Even though my team is out.  I just loved it that the Broncos won, though.  That was a great game!

Until next time, please visit the Curlicue Creations shop, and have a super day!

Welcome 2012!

Frosty Quilted Table Runner

Welcome 2012!  Did you make a New Year's Resolution?  I did.  I'm going to work more on those machine quilting skills.  Practice, practice, practice.  Here's a close-up of the Frosty Quilted Table Runner I'm working on.  There's some stipple quilting in the background of the tree (I tried to make it look windy), squiggles going down the tree, and some really close vertical free form lines running up and down the trunk of the tree.  The straight line quilting on the blue background came out pretty good.

Scissors Ornament

Here's the one quilty gift I received for Christmas.  It's a scissors ornament.  Perfect for the quilty collection.  I have it hanging on the wall in my studio.

Singer Fashion Mate

In shopping news, I picked up this Singer Fashion Mate sewing machine at the Goodwill.  It got great reviews online and looks to be hardly used.  It does, however need a few parts.  We'll see what it does when I get it all together.

Pine Tree Quilt Block

Candy Cane Quilt Blocks

And, in my spare time,  (Ha!Ha!) I got out one of my old UFO's to work on, the Christmas Quilt Block of the Month.  I made this nifty Pine Tree Block using some unusual colors.  I'm going to try to include these fabrics in some of the other blocks for this quilt, too.  The Candy Cane blocks, I made years ago, when I first started working on this one.  I'll keep you updated, if I can stay on task with this!

Also, coming up in just one week, January 11th, I'll be the guest blogger at the Quilting Gallery.  Please stop by this excellent site, and look around.  I will be having a fun giveaway in my guest posting.  Hope to see you there.

Until next time...please visit the Curlicue Creations shop, say "Hello", and have a super day!
