Happy Fall! This is my October project for Island Batik Ambassadors.

This month's challenge is Top it Off. We were asked to make a table runner or topper with a holiday theme featuring an applique technique.
I already had this idea a-brewin', so I made it a reality.
I used a variety of Island Batik fabrics from my stash, including the black solid.
As you can see, the pumpkin block is pieced. I fulfilled the applique requirement with the letters. This is my second project in a row with letters on it. They add a fun element to a quilt.
I quilted around the letters and did some accent quilting on the pumpkin. I quilted the black background in straight lines with a thick 28 wt. Aurifil thread. I ran out while quilting, and decided that was enough. Sometimes the thread tells you when you are done.
I had fun taking photos of this table topper in my yard. We have some large oak trees.

This is the view looking into the woods. Our trees still have a lot of green on them. Our fall color is a little bit behind this year.
Here you can see the effect of the straight line quilting.
I used Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 Black batting for this quilt. You don't get any annoying white threads coming through your dark quilt top and it's lovely to stitch through.
Quilting on the pumpkin's stem.
I also used Island Batik's solid black fabric for the back of this quilt.
Another fun pic. The tree behind it is a bright yellow, though it looks a bit faded in my photo.
I think the black iron fence gives it a spooky Halloween look.
