Home Sweet Home Quilt-y Coaster

Yard sale hunting this past weekend yielded this prime find.  A set of four stoneware quilt-y coasters.  They were a little grubby, even after washing.  I'm thinking a little time with the Magic Eraser will clean them up.  Still, cute anyway!  I HAD to have them.

Americana Bandanna Quilted Trivet #3

Yesterday I started work on a third Americana Bandanna quilted trivet.  Here's how it looks so far.  I decided to use the navy blue bandanna print on the front this time, instead of the medium blue bandanna print for a little different look.

Primrose Promise Quilt Pattern

I also worked on the Primrose Promise pattern some more this week.  It is SOOOO close to finished.  I just have to write the applique patterns for Border #6, and voila - it will be in the shop.  I need to keep motivated...motivated...motivated!

My Trip to "The Big City"

Do you remember Andy Griffith and the town of Mayberry?  Every now and then they would take a trip to Raleigh.  They always called it "the big city".  LOL.  But Raleigh is a nice place & the closest "big city" to where I live.  Last Friday I went into Raleigh to do some shopping.

First I went to the ReTails thrift shop where I picked up these great patriotic fabrics.  I always love red, white, and blues!

Then, I tried a new sewing shop I unexpectedly came across.  It was the Sew Unique Sewing Center, www.sewuniquefabrics.com.  They had a nice selection of quilting fabrics and some terrific new machines for sale.  I picked up a couple of fat quarters for my Dear Jane quilt.

I couldn't resist this cute, quilty clipboard I found at yet another thrift shop.  It has magnets on the back, so I can put it on my refrigerator with a reminder list of all my "things to do", write blog, bake apple pie, kiss the kids, etc.

I worked on two more blocks for my Dear Jane quilt, E9, Quilt Jail, and D-12, Crossed Swords.  Crossed Swords kind of reminds me of the Star Trek symbol.  Here, as I promised are my B row blocks.  I'll post the Row C blocks next time.

"Dear Jane", I "Love" you, even when it's "Frosty" outside

This week, I finally got back to my Dear Jane quilt.  It's been years since I pulled it out...really...it's embarrassing!  The first thing I did was to re-press and trim up all my blocks.  Then I sewed two new blocks, D-4, Crystal Star, and D-13, Field of Dreams.  My color scheme is all purples and creams.  I've sewn a total of 56 of the blocks - no triangles yet.  I used to have a piece count, but I don't have the patience to recount all the pieces sewn so far!  What a super lifetime project for me.  I can't believe some people have made more than one of these!  Here are my blocks from the A row:

Love Applique Quilt Block Pattern

 Frosty Quilted Trivet

I also spent some time working on my next quilted trivet, Frosty.  Isn't he cute?  Winter is coming, and Frosty will be sure to warm up your kitchen table.  I'm planning on adding some midnight blue setting triangles to the corners to finish him up.  He currently measures 6" square.

New shop items, a marvy photo session, and a HUGE yard sale

Peace Applique Quilt Pattern

This week I added the Peace Applique Quilt Pattern to the Curlicue Creations shop.  It is fourth in a series of five applique block patterns, Peace, Joy, Love, Faith, and Hope.  The pattern makes a 12" finished size block. Americana Bandanna Quilted Trivet

I also finished the Americana Bandanna quilted trivet and gave it a marvy photo session! 

Here's a photo of the Americana Bandanna quilted trivet posing with an old Farmall tractor.  If that doesn't say "America!", I don't know what does.

Here's the Americana Bandanna quilted trivet posing with a lovely bowl of fruit.  The trivet measures 10-1/2" x 14-1/2" to fit snugly under 9" x 13" size baking pans.  Mmmmm!  I can smell the brownies and lasagna already!

I also gave the Americana Bandanna quilted trivet a sexy close up to show off the primitive curlicue quilting.

Porcelain type Iron shaped box

For Labor Day weekend, we visited the Hillsville, Virginia yard sale.  This is a HUGE event.  I've never seen anything like it.  The yard sales start outside of the city on Highway 58.  People park their cars and walk for miles to the yard sales lining the highway.  When you get into the city, it's $5.00 to park.  Yard sale tents and vendors of all kinds are set up in several large flea-market size groups and lining both sides of the road.  They also have a gun and knife show.  I've been told by a native Hillsvillian that the whole event originated as the "Gun and Knife Show".  You could likely get anything you've ever had a hankering for at this yard sale.  I didn't get much, though.  I purchased the above Iron shaped box for the ol' iron collection.  

Ducky little basket of thread

I also acquired this ducky little basket of thread.  Thread is always handy.

White Rotary Sewing Machine

Wes came home last week with two "new" sewing machines.  One is an Italian Necchi from the 1950's.  The other is this collector's item, a White Rotary Sewing Machine, made in the U.S.A.  It looks to be from the late 1920's or early 1930's.  It has a motor, but is also set up to use a treadle.  I'm not sure if the motor was added on, or original, as the White Sewing Machine Company did both with this model machine.  It has a serial number, but I couldn't find information on this machine's number.  Still, it's pretty to look at, and actually works.
