No More Loose Threads!

Yesterday I finished working in all the loose thread ends on the Aura hexagon quilt.  Here it is!  Next I'll be adding the binding, sleeve, and label.

Here are a few more close-ups of this quilt.

Do you like the yellow accents?  They are almost like flower centers ~ almost.

Stripes of vibrant colors showcasing gorgeous scraps of fabric.
This entire quilt top was pieced from my scrap basket.  The funny thing is, my scrap basket still looks the same.

Have a super day!

One More Barn Block

One more Barn Quilt block from the McDowell County, North Carolina quilt trail.  I love the vibrancy of the colors in this geometric block and the way they look against the red wall of this building.  Sorry, I do not know what building it is.

I'm also sharing a few photos from a waterfall hike we did.  This one is looking up into the treetops.

This one is looking through the forest while we were on the trail.  I especially like the way the light is shining down through the trees in this photo.

A nice composition of rocks, wood, water, and moss.  This is part of the stream, coming from the base of the waterfall.

This is the waterfall we hiked to.  It was a short, easy hike - yay! I feel so blessed to live in North Carolina.  It's a beautiful state from the mountains to the sea.  What inspires you where you live?  Leave a comment below.

Have a lovely day,

The Historic Orchard at Altapass

While on vacation in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina this summer we visited the Historic Orchard at Altapass.  You can see my husband and son entering the building in this picture.  Inside we could smell apple pie baking ~ wonderful!  This was a delightful stop on our drive.  There is a magnificent view from the back of the building.  The inside is stocked with homemade jellies and jams, apples (in season), ice cream, and they also have live music performances.

I love their Apple Tree quilt block - how perfect!  They grow a huge variety of apples here (40 or so I believe).  The orchard also has walking trails you can take to see the orchards.

Have a wonderful day,

McDowell County, North Carolina Quilt Trail

I was editing some pictures from a summer trip this morning and came across these quilt blocks from the McDowell County, North Carolina quilt trail, so I'm sharing them today.
This first one was out in the countryside, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Another shot from the country drive, guardrail included.

These blocks are on the side of a brick building in downtown Marion, North Carolina.

Quilt blocks are everywhere in Marion.  I'm assuming this was on some kind of government building.

Another drive by photo - a little blurry, but too pretty to leave out!

Really cool!  Birds, mountains, and a sunrise or sunset.

I hope you enjoyed it!

Have a wonderful day,

Tucking in Thread Ends - Aura Hexagon Quilt

Here's a look at the Aura quilt without tangled thread ends all over it.

I had enough time yesterday to weave in just over half of the thread ends.

I'm liking the results.

Not long now!

Have a colorful day,

Vintage Sewing Goody Grab Bag

I recently picked up a grab bag of vintage sewing goodies.  Included in this find is:

An old Singer Oil can - no oil.

This small glass dish.  I was told it's a button dish. I've never seen one before.  I'm using it to hold my lint brush, screwdriver, and other tools I use while I'm machine quilting.

Five old bobbins.  Look at the rainbow of thread that's been wound on two of the clear bobbins.  What happened to that red thread?  Melted?  It looks rough!

Old Singer bag with several packages of needles, some open, some not.

Singer's Student's Manual of Machine Sewing

Manual for a Singer 503!  Yay!  I own one of these machines.

Singer Student's Manual of How to Care for and Regulate Your Sewing Machine

Singer Sewing Equipment for Schools and Colleges

Singer Ideas for ZigZag Sewing - Love the colorfully stitched "ZIGZAG" lettering.

 Singer Electric Sewing Machines

Manual for a Singer 66.  Somehow a "Swing Tap" image got transferred upside down onto the front of this manual.

I love finding fun and vintage sewing accessories like these!  Do you have a collection?  Leave a comment below.

Have a wonderful day,

Hexagon Quilting Eye Candy

Today I'm posting a few more pictures of the Aura hexagon quilt being quilted.

This quilt has been so much fun to make.

I love the way the pieces fit together and the colors flow across the quilt.

In this picture, you can really see the texture difference in the quilted and unquilted hexagons.

Have a lovely day,

Where's William?

Where's my kitty, William?  Can you see him in my quilt cabinet?  He nosed his way in there while I was eating my lunch and watching a Craftsy class.

There he is!  I love it.  He just wanted to cuddle up with a quilt for nap time.  Oh kitty!

Hope you are having a wonderful day!
