This is my finished project for the Island Batik Ambassadors October challenge, Front Porch Sittin'.
The theme of this month's challenge is Thread Painting with Aurifil threads.
I used the new Island Batik Urbanization fabric collection by Kathy Engle.
These are the Aurifil threads I used for my project. Most of these were sent in the Island Batik Ambassador box #2. The thread colors are (from left to right) 2600, 2134, 2725, 2730, 4225, and 4030.
To make my Front Porch Sittin' quilt, I sewed strips of the Urbanization fabric cut with my Accuquilt Go strip dies together into the background, arranging the pieces to suggest areas of light and darkness. Then I used coordinating Aurifil threads to "paint" skinny lines of thread over each strip.
The flowers were fused in place and accented with some echo quilting.
This is the back of the quilt.
I bound the quilt with a purple fabric.
I used Hobbs fusible batting for the inside of my quilt and Schmetz needles for all of the piecing and painting.

Front Porch Sittin', part two. I cut the blue and purple fabrics from the Island Batik Urbanization collection by Kathy Engle into strips of varying widths.
I then sewed the strips together into sections, using the values to create areas of light and darkness.
Two sections of strips, up on my design wall. There will be one more section that goes at the top of the quilt.
After I completed sewing the strips together, I arranged the fusible flowers that I cut in Front Porch Sittin' ~ Part One over the strip background, fused them in place, and secured the edges with a small zigzag stitch in matching Aurifil threads. Next up ~ Thread Painting/Quilting. We're getting close to the final reveal.
