I Made a New Window Quilt!

If you didn't know, I live in an old, old, farmhouse.  It's drafty in the winter.  The wind blows straight at the front of the house and sometimes it feels like it's coming right on through.  Sometime in the last year the bedroom curtain that was on this window went kaput!  Since then it has been covered with this makeshift and super ugly green sheet.  Not very attractive, it fell down regularly, and it was certainly not going to help at all with the cold weather on the way.

Did you see the beautiful Christmas stocking I made for my November Island Batik Ambassador project?  I used fabric from this Emperor's Treasures strip pack.  I still had a lot of fabric left, and just look at these gorgeous colors!  I decided to use it up to make a quilted curtain.

I began by cutting the light purple coordinating fabric into 2-1/2" strips and sewed it together with the Emperor's Treasures strips.

I then sub cut into 2-1/2" strip sets.

After sewing the strip sets together, I added a couple of coordinating light purple strips of Island Batik fabric from my stash to each side of the checkerboard panel to make it the right size to cover my window.

I loaded it onto my quilting frame, using Hobbs Thermore batting.  This is a thin, lightweight batting, perfect for this project.

I quilted in a swirly pattern.  I love quilting swirls, and I'm so glad I did.  It looks really pretty on the finished project.

Here is my finished quilted curtain panel. It looks so pretty with the light shining through. I bought a new curtain rod and installed it myself.  I made ties with some of the 2-1/2" fabric strips, so I can roll it up and let the sun shine in on pleasant days.  And on chilly days, like today I will have a better barrier to the cold, and a pretty room decoration.  These window quilts are really easy to make, and help insulate a drafty window.  I simply sewed a sleeve across the back for hanging.

Coastal Stars Quilt, Pattern, and Kit in the Connecting Threads Catalog

Photo of Coastal Stars quilt by Connecting Threads

This is the Coastal Stars quilt.  I went a little outside of my usual color styling and tried a new combination with this pattern.  The terra cotta, green, purple, and gray together give this quilt a bold, yet restful look.  Finishing at 46" x 58", this quilt is the perfect size for a cuddly couch throw.

Daisy Pond Quilt and Pattern in Love of Quilting July/August 2022

My Daisy Pond quilt and pattern is featured in the new Love of Quilting July/August 2022....sort of.

See the "Plus Free Bonus Digital Pattern" on the cover?  That's Daisy Pond.  You can get it when you purchase the issue.  Here's a link to get your copy:  Love of Quilting July/August 2022, or look for it in local quilt shops now.  *Bonus:  My fellow Island Batik Ambassador Quilting Gail has a quilt in this issue, too!

Daisy Pond was a really fun medallion style quilt with this quick and easy to sew fusible applique ring of daisies floating on a pond for the center block.  The green border around the daisies represents the marshy green edge of the pond.

The checkerboard border and the triangle border represent rocks around the pond.

I used Island Batik's new Jewel Carvings fabric collection for this quilt.

Pretty folds!

I swirl quilted in a blue thread to simulate movement in the water.

Daisy Pond is backed in another lovely blue Island Batik fabric and bound with a dotty blue.

More pretty folds.  These colors make me feel happy and calm.

Spring Market Quilt and Pattern ~ New!

This is the Spring Market quilt.  It's one of my new patterns this year.  This quilt is featured in the Island Batik catalog.  The pattern is available in my Etsy shop and select quilt shops across the USA.

Disclaimer:  The fabrics used to make this quilt were generously given to me by Island Batik.
I used the Mountain Gems fabric collection by Kathy Engle for Island Batik.  I just love the gorgeous blues and greens in this collection.  The designs on the fabrics are equally awesome.  Do you see the curly vines?  That one is my favorite.  This fabric is available in quilt shops now.

The main block for this quilt is a star with an on-point nine patch in the center.  These are really fun to sew.

Trail Mix did a little photobomb while I was taking pictures.  I'm sure she is wondering what this quilt is doing hanging on the outside of the house.  That's not where they belong.  How can she cuddle it like this?

The star blocks are set in blue sashing with checkerboard cornerstones.  A classic look.  The checkerboard is also featured in one of the quilt borders.

I quilted Spring Market in an all-over loopy meander.
