Here's my block for this issue, it's called Summer's End. It's block #609 in the magazine. This time around I experimented with some soft flannels on a creamy cotton background. I really enjoyed working with the flannel fabrics. They handled beautifully. Because my block is a little dark, (like the end of Summer) I thought I would show how it would look in a few different colorways.
This is the Summer's End, Winter version! All cool, icy blues. The stems are a light brown, and the leaves have a frosted look to them. These are some stubborn flowers to still be blooming in the chilly weather.
This is the Summer's End, Spring version. All is bright and brand new, with pretty pink flowers and fresh greens. I used the snowflake background because it was an unusually cold Spring this year.
And this is the Autumn version of Summer's End. I kept the daisy type flower in the pinks because I wanted to show how it looks when bright colors pop against a dark background. I love this look in applique. Also, note the busy fabric I used for the stems. It really adds some pizazz to the block.
This is the Summer's End quilt I made using four of my blocks, This was a fun little quilt to sew. I love the sawtooth setting and the brightness the turquoise blocks add to the overall look. The different shades of orange have been speaking to me lately; it really gave me a sense of peace to use them in this quilt.

I've always loved Fall the best; the cool crisp air, after summer's heat, harvesting squash and pumpkins, leaves going technicolor, and two of my favorite holidays...what's not to love?

ReplyDeleteSpring is my favorite season. Like seeing the snow disappear, and the
ReplyDeletefresh smell of flowers. I really like the block.
Ooh what a great block. I relaly love flowers. Sping is probably my most favorite season. I look forward to everything around the yard becomming green again and the smell of my very large lilac bushes being in bloom. Plus that icky snow is gone too. Of course, this year winter doesn't seem to want to leave. We just had snow/sleet less than a week ago, but thankfully this time of the year it still melts fairly quickly so that's good.
ReplyDeleteLa primavera es las estación del año que prefiero, me gustan mucho las flores y los colores de todas las plantas al brotas después del invierno. Un bloque muy bonito y un saludo desde Barcelona.
ReplyDeleteI love spring! No more snow and not too hot, the perfect season.
ReplyDeleteI think I might have to make a "four seasons" wallhanging from this.
ReplyDeleteSpring is full of hope, buds and bulbs.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to choose fall because of the gorgeous colors.
ReplyDeleteIts always been fall for the colors.... but lately spring is looking mighty fine in the fabric colors
ReplyDeleteWinter is my favorite since it gives me an excuse to sew whenever I'm snowed in, and a heavy quilt on my lap while doing handwork is not too warm. Adorable block, and thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite season is Spring!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite season is summer, but your winter block is the one I like the best.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is my very favorite. I had 4 seasons for the first 7 years of my life. I spent the next 45 years in Florida and longed for fall. When we retired, our number one criteria was a place that had all four seasons. Now, we have fall EVERY year in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Paradise!
ReplyDeleteI love the summer block!
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern!
ReplyDeleteSpring is my favorite season- the colors and life beginning again!
I like the Autumn view - love the colors!
ReplyDeleteI love the Florida winters. The all seasons block is soo cool!
ReplyDeleteSummer is my favorite season. Wish it would hurry up and get here!
ReplyDeleteSpring is my favorite! I love when the bluebonnets start blooming all over Texas!

ReplyDeletePretty block! My favorite season is Spring. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI like that your block can be used for all four seasons. I can imagine choosing my favorite blooms from each season and incorporating the look of each in a block. I can never decide if my favorite season is spring or fall. I think it depends on how extreme the preceding winter or summer has been!
ReplyDeleteI like the Spring version. After all, yet another storm is heading to us and we are about into May! Really cute block!
ReplyDeleteAutumn is my favorite season, although I was sure glad to see spring arrive and bring some sunshine with it.

ReplyDeleteI used to always say Autumn was my favorite season, but after this endless winter we've been having in MN, I choose SPRING!! I don't even care that I will have itchy eyes and a runny nose from the pollen--bring it on!
ReplyDeleteI love summer.. I like your blocks..
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Summers End version is Winter. I love the icy blue effect.
ReplyDeleteI love fall! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteSpring is my favorite season. The fresh new colors of the flowering plants after the long winter is such a delight for ones sole.
ReplyDeleteI love your block! My favorite season is fall. I love the color changing of the leaves and the crisp, cool air. Spring is a close second, though, when everything starts turning green and the flowers start to bloom.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite season is spring. It is full of so many possibilities. Your block is so pretty :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful block, I love summer the most because of the warm sunshine, but most often when I want to do a block or quilt it always has snowmen.
ReplyDeleteHi I really like the brightness of the spring version but I like the additional touch of using the snowflake material because easter and spring here in England was snowy! I would love to make something using all 4 seasons together too I think that would make a great floor cushion.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. My favorite season is Autumn. I love the crisp air, falling leaves and the wonderful colors. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI love Spring! The weather is perfect, not too hot, not too cold. I also love all the flowers in bloom!

ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how different a block can look with different fabrics. Thanks for your contribution.
ReplyDeleteJennifer-Love your cat blocks as I have 3 feline helpers. My little black feline rescue Bombay 'helps' me by pulling out the pins on my projects with her teeth, so I have to be careful and hide them. Our other two rescue Tabbies, gray with white tuxedo and orange, are "laid back" males who keep our lives in retirement interesting as they are alway "up to something!" Thanks for the opportunity to win some great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteRosemary
oh, summer, for sure! Late June, when all the flowers are blooming, the days are long and the weather is warm! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteSpring is my favorite time of year. The temperatures are moderate, the greens are new, and some of my favorite flowers are starting to bloom!
ReplyDeletemhinders@myclearwave.net
ReplyDeleteSpring...Starting anew. Congrats nice block. Thanks for the chance to win.
My fave is the winter one w the icy blues!
ReplyDeletegotta be spring! Love your block
ReplyDeleteJennifer-My favorite season is summer because that's the time of the year when my allergies bother me the least. Gus, Ben, Tabitha and I love your cat blocks. These three rescue kitties keep our retired life interesting. Our little black female Bombay likes to pull the pins out of my projects with her teeth, so I have to hide my work from her and of course, they all have to approve of any work that I do! The tabbies are much more "laid back," except Gus who seems to have an affinity for thread as he as removed the hems from all my living room and bedroom drapes. It's time for them to go anyway, but will be replacing the window coverings with something other than drapes! Thanks for the opportunity to win some great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what happened to my comments as this is the third time I've typed things in and it doesn't seem to "publish"
