Tinder Box Quilt and Pattern in Quilter's World Autumn 2022 Issue

This is my newest published work, the Tinder Box quilt.  It's a cuddly throw, perfect for the crisp Autumn evenings that will be coming up soon.

Disclaimer:  The fabric used to make this quilt was provided by Island Batik.
The Tinder Box quilt and pattern are featured in the new Quilter's World Autumn 2022 issue.  There are so many beautiful Fall sewing projects inside.  I do love Fall.  It's my favorite time of the year.  Order your copy here:  Quilter's World Autumn 2022, or look for it in your local quilt shop.

I used Island Batik's new Moonlight Hollow fabric collection for this quilt.  This fabric is designed by Kathy Engle.  You may be able to find precuts in quilt shops now, and yardage should be out by September.  It's the perfect fall fabric collection with pumpkins, ravens, curly vines, and the colors ~  Wow!  Well, you can see for yourself.  These fabrics are even more beautiful in person.

The Tinder Box block is pretty simple.  These large sized blocks come together quickly.

The stars in the sashing add to the Fall nights feeling.  Snuggle under this quilt by a campfire under the stars.  Pass the s'mores.

I quilted an allover loopy meander design to finish my quilt.

Island Batik Ambassador Unboxing Video ~ Second Shipment for 2022!

Hello!  It's Island Batik Ambassador unboxing video time and today is my day!  Watch my video to see what wonderful supplies I received to use for my Island Batik Ambassador projects for the second half of 2022.

Disclaimer:  The products in this post were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.
Here's a recap in photos of my boxes' contents:
I received two packages of stash builders.  I've already opened and used part of one package for my July Accuquilt Tree of Life challenge.  Each stash builder roll has four different fabrics, 5" x W.O.F.

This is my ByAnnie.com bag kit.  I'm making the Ultimate Travel bag.  I was able to choose the fabric I wanted for the bag, and ByAnnie put together everything needed to make the bag.  The pattern, the hardware, and Soft and Stable.

Here's something new:  It's an Alpaca/Wool pressing mat by Prairie Spirit Alpacas.  I've never used one before.  I did try it this week for my July project, and it was awesome!  I love how flat my seams came out.

This is the Bee Hive Buzz collection by Kathy Engle.  These fabrics will be used in the September blog hop.

These 10" precuts are the Midnight Glow fabric collection, my absolute favorite from the new lines.  I'm so excited to have received this.  Aren't they just gorgeous?  I'm thinking about using these in August.

These are most of the foundations bundle I received.  I've used two of the fabrics already.

This is my surprise package!  I can't show you this collection yet, but I've peeked, and it is wonderful!  I'll be revealing these beauties in the November blog hop.

Hobbs Batting sent a package of Fusible Batting Strips.

I received this Four Patch Square Up ruler from Deb Tucker's Studio 180 for an upcoming challenge.

This is a generous six yard cut of Coconut.

Four yards each of Island Batik solid black, white, and gray.

Hobbs Black 80/20 Heirloom Batting, Queen Size.

Hobbs Thermore batting.

Hobbs Tuscany Cotton Wool Blend batting.

Hobbs Heirloom Natural Cotton Batting with Scrim.
The Accuquilt Tree of Life BOB die.

Here's everything ~ WOW!  I'm going to be busy.  Thank you so much Island Batik, Hobbs Batting, Accuquilt, ByAnnie.com, Studio 180, and Prairie Spirit Alpacas.

Island Batik and Accuquilt ~ Christmas in July

This is the quilt I made with the Accuquilt Tree of Life die.  I call my quilt Fountain of Life.

Disclaimer:  The supplies used to make this project were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.

The Island Batik Ambassador challenge for July is Christmas in July with Accuquilt.  We were to use the Tree of Life die to create anything we liked and then gift it to someone.

This is the new Accuquilt Tree of Life die.  It makes a 14" square, an on-point pieced block with 73 pieces!  It's structured so there are no Y-seams.  Awesome!

I thought the tree looked a little bit like a fountain and decided to go with that design idea.  The Tree of Life die is designed so you can cut out all of the pieces for the block in one pass, but I decided to do one color at a time to keep myself from getting confused, especially as I had changed the color placement a bit to create my fountain block.

In no time at all I was ready to piece my block together.  Trail Mix helped.

I tried my new Prairie Spirit Alpaca pressing mat.  I was so impressed!  The seams for my block came out so nice and flat.  I've never used a pressing mat and I was honestly surprised at the huge difference it made.  What a great tool to have in your sewing room.

I finished my quilt top with some blue setting squares and added a pretty gray border.  Most of these fabrics were pulled from my Island Batik foundations bundle and my stash.

I used Hobbs Poly Down batting and quilted with Aurifil 50 wt. in color #6724.  As I was quilting, I thought to myself, "This quilt needs something more....what else could I add to make it more fountain like?"

A pair of birds playing under the fountain seemed right to me.  I played with a bird block I liked from EQ8 until I had just the right design for my quilt.  I used a yellow fabric from my stash builders rolls for the birds, and fusible appliqued them right to my already quilted top.

I stitched around the edges of the birds to secure them with a small zigzag stitch and matching yellow Aurifil thread.  I used my favorite Schmetz needles, as usual.

When the birds were finished, my son pointed out that they didn't have any legs.

They're sitting down, I said.

They need legs, Mom.

OK.

Out came the Aurifil 12 wt. in bird leg color #2205.

Tiny little bird legs!

I used more yellow from my stash builders for the quilt binding.

My parents are visiting me this week from Las Vegas.  July is birthday month for both of them, so it seemed appropriate to gift this quilt to them.  Happy-Birthday-Christmas-in-July!
