Raspberry Bridge Mix 

I started cutting out some of the chocolate and cream fabrics for the Raspberry Bridge Mix quilt top this week.  I'm using a variety of fabrics for the chocolates and creams.  I need a great raspberry fabric to pull it all together.

I also made some tester blocks for this pattern in the above blue/black color scheme.  The center block of the star has a fussy cut guitar.  This came out so cute, I'm thinking I'm going to make another project with a few more of these blocks, maybe with a different instrument in the center of each star.

Now on to this week's spoils!  I got this nice red metal box filled with thread, buttons, and a few other sewing odds and ends.

Sewing Kit

Here's a close up photo of the little sewing kit in the above red metal box.  I couldn't believe how cute it is!  All the different colored tiny spools of thread, a red thimble, and a couple of needles.  The top of the box even has a pretty pattern molded into it.  I couldn't find a name on it anywhere..I don't know where it was made.

Dorko Solingen Scissors

Here's a nice pair of Dorko Solingen Scissors made in Germany.  I'm not sure how old these are, but they cut very nicely.  A great addition to the sewing basket.

And the results of the sewing machine lint poll are in.  Tsk! Tsk!  One hundred percent of the people who answered the poll only clean out their sewing machine when it breaks down.  Okay...I'm guilty too, but I'm going to work on that...really.

Ice Pellets Quilt top finished

Ice Pellets Quilt Top

Here it is!  The Ice Pellets quilt top is complete.  This quilt measures 79" x 79" and only involves two different blocks.  One of the blocks is done in three different colorways.  The other block is the same colorway and appears all over the quilt, as every other block.  This quilt is put together in an "Around the World" type setting.  The pattern for Ice Pellets is currently for sale at curlicuecreations.com.  Now, on to the quilting.

In other news, I acquired two beautiful wooden quilt hangers this week.  One of them is shown above, displaying the Pinwheel X quilt.  The Pinwheel X quilt pattern is also available for sale at curlicuecreations.com.  The two quilt hangers both feature an upper shelf and a heart carving, but they are a little bit different from each other.  I will show the other hanger when I find the perfect place for it and the perfect quilt to display on it.

National Sewing Machine Day

Hooray!  Hooray!  June 13th is National Sewing Machine Day!  I'm not sure where I heard that, but I did mark my calendar for it.  If you're a quilter, or seamstress of some kind, your sewing machine is like your best friend.
Here are a few of my friends:

My Singer Featherweight 221

I was so excited when I found this at a yard sale for $4.00!  What a deal!  It came complete with the case, attachments in their original cardboard box, and even the original can of Singer oil.  This machine was born on April 26, 1951.  It runs...well...just like a sewing machine.  :)

My Brother XR-65

This is the machine I do most of my sewing on.  It was made especially for quilting & it gets the job done.  

Toy Sewing Machine by Mattel

One of many toy sewing machines I own.  This one is so cute and so pink!  When you pull the red knob out, the "needle" moves up and down, the whole machine shakes and it makes a great "sewing" sound.

My Singer Treadle Machine

This one was a freebie.  It was someone's cast-off old project that they never got around to.  It really works, and it's so romantic!

Singer Model 66

This is my oldest machine, born on July 31, 1928.  It's also in excellent condition.  The finish and decal details are beautiful, and it still works.

Heart Match Quilt

Ice Pellets Quilt, vintage goodies, and more...

Ice Pellets Quilt Pattern

Ice Pellets quilt pattern on sale now at curlicuecreations.com.  The finished size of this quilt is 79" x 79".  It features an "Around the World" type setting.  This quilt is fast, fun, and easy to piece.  I'm nearly finished with the top now.  I'm ready to sew all the rows together and add the simple border to finish the top.  I'll be sure to post an updated photo when the top is finished.  Here's photos of two of the four different Ice Pellets blocks.

I was lucky enough to acquire an old wooden box full of vintage sewing goodies at an estate sale over the weekend.  I believe the big prize in this box is "Roosevelt's New Deal Prosperity Needle Book".  This dates back to the 1930's/1940's.  Most of the needles are still in the book.  Also included in this box is an old pair of scissors dating back to the 1800's, some 1940's embroidery floss, some old thread, some other needle books I still need to look up, a handful of thimbles, some 1943 steel pennies, and a few other miscellaneous sewing items.  What fun.  I just love stuff like this.  I will be sure to post photos of most of these items on my Facebook page.  Please scroll down to the bottom of this blog and "like" Curlicue Creations on Facebook.
