Peace Quilt Block

Last week I carved out a little time to sew the Peace quilt block.

It's a fusible applique pattern.  I like to use Heat 'n Bond Lite for my fusible applique.

I iron all of my fabrics before applying the fusible web.  This is the back of the green I used for the leaves and stems, ready to press.

I enjoy the process of cutting out the pieces.  These are the red flower petals.

In this stage I am sorting out the pieces on my ironing board and preparing to fuse them to the background block.

All the pieces have been applied to the background.  The next step will be sewing a tiny zigzag stitch over the edges of each patch.

The Peace quilt block pattern is available in my Etsy shop, here:  Peace Applique Quilt Block Pattern

When it is finished, it will be a nice companion to my Hope quilt block.  I'm planning on sewing four different applique blocks and putting them together into a small quilt.

The Hope quilt block pattern is also available in my Etsy shop, here:  Hope Quilt Block Pattern

What's Inside the August 2019 Quilty Box?

Disclaimer:  This subscription box was given to me at no cost by Quilty Box.
The August Quilty Box is here!  Are you ready for Autumn?  This box is filled with beautiful Fall sewing inspiration.  You can almost feel a cool crispness in the air when you open the box.  It's a promise of Fall, my favorite time of the year.

This month's featured designer is Kirsten Sevig.  I enjoyed reading the interview with her inside Bundles of Inspiration.  She calls herself a "forever child" and gleans inspiration for her designs from her time spent living in Iceland.

The Sweet Oak fabric collection, by Striped Pear Studio for Windham Fabrics is bursting with fall color and themes!

Just look at these fabulous colors and prints!  Acorns, colorful leaves, cute little worms and snails!
I can't wait to cut into these.

Speaking of cutting, look at this new Olfa Splash cutter in Navy.  It looks sleek in this classic deep blue color.  The Splash cutter features an easy quick change blade - yay!  No more trying to remember which way to screw all those little parts back into place.

Two Frixion gel pens are included this month, one red and one blue.  I've never tried these before.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Wow!  Look at the color of this Wonderfil thread!!!  This vibrant variegated thread is called Tutti.  It's a 50 wt thread.  It will be beautiful for quilting.

Also included is this cute sticker of Striped Pear Studio's logo.  How adorable!  I'll be affixing this to one of my project boxes for a little pop of color.

Star Crossed Part One

Disclaimer:  The products in this post were given to my by Island Batik at no cost to me.
My Island Batik Ambassador challenge for August is Star Light, Star Bright.  I've been working on it in between getting my three boys back to school.  One to college, one to high school, and the fourth grader is starting on this coming Monday.  I'm excited about the design for Star Crossed.  You can see my design idea, along with some of the new Island Batik fabrics above.

I was able to cut all of my pieces out with the Accuquilt Go.  So quick, precise, and easy to use.
I used the 8" qube and a couple of strip dies to cut out my quilt.

Then I began a lot of chain piecing!  I'm making sets of twelve blocks each in three different colorways, purple, pink, and lavender.

Here is my design wall showing many of the block units.

This is one of the finished blocks.  Can you figure out how it is going to become a star?  I'll reveal the whole quilt in a future post.  I've just finished the quilting, so the big reveal should be in the next week or so.  Stay tuned!
