Daisy Pond Quilt and Pattern in Love of Quilting July/August 2022

My Daisy Pond quilt and pattern is featured in the new Love of Quilting July/August 2022....sort of.

See the "Plus Free Bonus Digital Pattern" on the cover?  That's Daisy Pond.  You can get it when you purchase the issue.  Here's a link to get your copy:  Love of Quilting July/August 2022, or look for it in local quilt shops now.  *Bonus:  My fellow Island Batik Ambassador Quilting Gail has a quilt in this issue, too!

Daisy Pond was a really fun medallion style quilt with this quick and easy to sew fusible applique ring of daisies floating on a pond for the center block.  The green border around the daisies represents the marshy green edge of the pond.

The checkerboard border and the triangle border represent rocks around the pond.

I used Island Batik's new Jewel Carvings fabric collection for this quilt.

Pretty folds!

I swirl quilted in a blue thread to simulate movement in the water.

Daisy Pond is backed in another lovely blue Island Batik fabric and bound with a dotty blue.

More pretty folds.  These colors make me feel happy and calm.

Joy Quilt Block and Pattern

This is the Joy quilt block.  It pairs with the Faith quilt block that I showed last week.
This is an update for a block pattern in my Etsy shop.  Here's how I made it:

I used a fusible applique method for this block,  Here's some of the leaf pieces laid out on the back of the green fabric.

These are the flower centers fused to the back of the yellow orange fabric.

Cutting out the fused patches.

Arranging leaves on the background square.

Arranging stems and flowers on the background square.

Adding more leaves.  At this point the patches are partially fused in place on the background square.

The perfect shade of yellow orange Aurifil thread to stitch down the flower centers.

Zigzag stitching around the flower centers to secure the patches.

Zigzag stitching around the flower petals with a matching red thread.

So pretty!  One flower and half of it's leaves done.

Still zigzag stitching the patches to secure them in place.

And done!  Here's a close up of one of the finished flowers.

Faith Quilt Block and Pattern

This is the Faith Quilt Block.  This pattern has been in my Etsy shop for a while.  I recently decided to make another block with it.

This pattern is written for fusible applique, but could easily be adapted to other styles of applique.  What's your favorite?

Sometimes I enjoy making bias stems, but in this case, as the stem is one big circle, I used fusible applique for it, too.

The circle stem and the four flowers fused to the background.

Arranging the leaves.

Fusing the leaves in place.

Centering and fusing the ladybug in place.

After everything is fused in place, I used matching thread to secure the edges of each patch with a small zigzag stitch.

Zigzagging around the stem and leaves.

Stitching around more leaves.

And more leaves...

Stitching around the flower petals with red thread.

Stitching the flower centers with yellow orange thread.

And finally, stitching around the ladybug and all her parts.

Finished flower close up.

Finished leaves close up.

Finished ladybug close up.

Finished Faith block.

The pattern for the Faith block is available in the Curlicue Creations Etsy shop.  You can order a paper copy here:  Faith Applique Quilt Block Paper Version
