Log Cabin Blog Hop ~ featuring the Promises Quilt, and a Giveaway!

This is my quilt for the first Island Batik Ambassador challenge of 2024, Promises.

*Giveaway Alert ~ Read to the end of this post for a chance to win some Island Batik fabric and my newest pattern!

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this project were given to me by Island Batik and Industry Partners.

We were challenged to make Log Cabin quilts using our assigned new fabric collections, shipping to stores now.  I've made many different log cabin variation quilts in the past, and I was excited to try something new.

I was even more excited when I dove into this stack of half yard cuts!  This collection is called Romance Garden.  It's a signature collection for Sherry Shish of Powered by Quilting, designed by Kathy Engle for Island Batik.  The colors in this collection are saturated pinks, purples, and greens.  The more I worked with them, the more I loved them.  These colors are making me happy!

I turned to Electric Quilt 8 for my design inspiration.  I chose to make offset stained glass log cabin blocks for my quilt.  Instead of using a solid black fabric for the "leading", I used the deep blue violet fabric shown here.  This is part of the Romance Garden collection and luckily I also received an additional 2 yard cut of it to use in my project.  I used nearly all of it!  I used it for the leading, the quilt border, and the binding, too.  I cut the rest of my fabric into strips of varying widths and sewed one strip of the blue violet "leading" fabric to each strip for my quilt.

Everything pressed nice and flat with my new Oliso iron.  I have been using this iron constantly and I have to say that I really do love it.  It's smooth, hot, and ready to press at a moment's notice.

The blocks sewed up quickly with my Schmetz needles and in no time at all I had a nice colorful stack of them.

I auditioned a few different thread colors for the quilting and decided on this hot pink Aurifil thread.

I used this 100 percent wool batting from Hobbs Tuscany Collection.  It's had a nice loft to it and resists fold lines in your quilts.

I quilted my favorite motif, an allover loopy meander.

You can see the quilting really well on the back of the quilt.  I used Island Batik's solid dark gray fabric for the backing, and you can again see that fabulous blue violet fabric for the binding.

Chessie, my studio cat kept me company.  She loves to sit on this chair in front of the heater.

I took my quilt to the beach for part of the photo shoot.  (Quilt with legs)

It was another beautiful day at North Topsail Island.

Lovely.

I took a few photos at home, as well.

This is in front of my studio, isn't it cute?

Cogs Agog ~ New Quilt and Pattern Alert!

If you follow me on social media, I've been teasing little peeks of this quilt all week.  Here's the full quilt ~ Cogs Agog.

I used these gorgeous fabrics from Island Batik's English Lavender collection for the Cogs Agog quilt.  I love this fabric collection so much that I made three quilts with it.  I used this collection for my Flurries quilt that appeared in Quilter's World magazine, and my Idalia's Web quilt that I made for the Island Batik pieced to perfection challenge.

I've always wanted to sew a quilt with the churn dash block and it did not disappoint!

I loved making these blocks in different fabric combinations for the Cogs Agog quilt.  They pieced perfectly and so easily.  The pieces all nestled together just right.  I love when that happens, don't you?

I auditioned these three King Tut threads for quilting Cogs Agog.  I chose Luxurious for the quilting.

I did my speedy go-to loopy meander quilting for Cogs Agog, as I was getting ready to move my home and studio to a new location.  I needed to finish up a few projects and pack.  I used Hobbs Heirloom Natural Cotton for the batting and quilted with my favorite Schmetz needles.

Trail Mix helped.  In this photo you can also see the beautiful Island Batik Twilight fabric I used to back my quilt.
