The Rainbow Connection Update

Here's the latest photo of my in progress hexie quilt, The Rainbow Connection.  I've been sewing along, slowly but steadily.  I need to stop and cut more hexies out of my scraps again.  That is my goal for today.  Do you like the progress?  I'm loving it.

The Rainbow Connection Hexagon Quilt Update

It's been a while since my last update on The Rainbow Connection.  Here it is, laid out on my patio.  Funny how hard it is to hang a star shaped top up to get a photo.  That just wasn't working out.  As you can see, all the star arms are completed.  I'm filling in the corners with stripes of black and more rainbow.

The Rainbow Connection Update

Slow but steady progress:  This update shows the red, orange, and yellow rows being added to the top and bottom arms of the star.  I've sewn a row of black hexies to the lower left star arm that will continue around all edges.  I've not yet decided if I should do all of the fill in with black, or jazz that up with some "V" shaped stripes.  What do you think?  Please leave a comment below.

Aura Hexagon Quilting Complete

Here are some more pics of the quilting on the Aura hexagon quilt.

I have lots of thread ends to tuck in.

I quilted a swirl pattern in each individual hexagon, excepting the yellow accent hexies.

It's a pink mountain peak!

It was a lot of fun, using all fabrics from my scrap basket for this quilt.

Each piece reminds me of another quilting project.
Cool how they can all go together into one quilt.

This is the end!  The last little corner.  Time to tuck in all those thread ends.  I always wait until the quilting is finished and then tuck them all in at the same time.  How do you handle your thread ends?  Leave a comment below.

Have a wonderful, colorful day!

The Rainbow Connection - Update #1

The Rainbow Connection hexagon quilt.  This week I've added more pink and a little purple.  These hexies finish at a small 3/4" per side.  Again, I'm only using fabrics from my scrap basket.  It should be fun to see how this one turns out.

Have a lovely day!

I'm Gonna Pop Some Hexies

Now that I've finished my Aura hexagon top, it's time to prepare for quilting.  First, I used a crochet hook to remove the remaining hexagon papers.  That was fun and easy.  Much easier than removing paper foundation piecing bits.  If you're curious, I used a size G crochet hook.

Then, I ironed the top and took this stellar photo on my design wall.  I like the way the yellow dots of color jump out at you and move your eye around the quilt.

I'm using a terrific dotty print for the backing.  I'd be quilting it right now, but I need to get some batting.

Did you guess the quilt block from my last post was a Log Cabin?  Great job!  Here's the finished block.  It will be the first in my new series of tutorials I've got planned for next year, "Quilt Block Classics".  Stay tuned.

Looky-looky!  I finished the lower right hand corner last night!  Only a few more hexies to sew in the upper right hand corner and this top will be finished.  What fun, I can hardly wait to start on the next one.
