New Pattern! ~ Modern Mini Star Atlantic Version

Today I'm showing another new pattern, Modern Mini Star, Atlantic Version.  I have four new patterns I'll be showing in the coming days.  The pattern for this quilt is available now in the Curlicue Creations Etsy Shop.

The Modern Mini Star quilt is mostly easy straight piecing, but uses a paper foundation piecing method to sew the tiny star in the middle of the center block.  Previous knowledge of paper piecing is helpful for this pattern.  See my paper piecing tutorial here:  Paper Piecing Tutorial

Here's a view of another one of the star blocks in this quilt.

This quilt was sewn with Island Batik's upcoming Just My Type fabric line.

The beautiful blues and greens remind me of the summertime ocean.

Finishing at 20" square, this is a quick project that can be completed in one day.

 Quilt Stats:
Finished Quilt Size:  20" x 20"
Fabrics:  Just My Type, Island Batik
Batting:  Hobbs
Thread:  Aurifil

Summertime blues.

I quilted the model with a turquoise blue Aurifil thread in diagonal lines.

The binding fabric matches the outer border.

Pretty folds.  Look at that beautiful color.

A tiny star quilt adds sparkle to your table top or wall.

If you sew a Modern Mini Star quilt, please send me a pic.  I would love to see it.

New Pattern! ~ Thistle Quilt

Today I'm showing my newest pattern.  This is the Thistle quilt. This couch cuddler sized quilt is quick to stitch and has a terrific eye catching look that co-ordinates well with nearly any decor.  The pattern for this quilt is now available in the Curlicue Creations Etsy Shop.

 Quilt Stats:
Finished Quilt Size:  59" x 59"
Block Size:  12" x 12"
Fabric:  London Calling by Island Batik
Batting:  Warm and Natural by the Warm Company
Thread:  King Tut by Superior Threads

This quilt was sewn using the Island Batik London Calling fabric collection.

The Thistle quilt is made up of two blocks.  This one with darker fabric values...

And this one with a lighter, brighter look.

The two blocks play beautifully together across the quilt top.

I used the The Warm Company's Warm and Natural batting ~ my very favorite all cotton batt.
I quilted a simple loopy meander in an all over fashion.

This quilt looks great in the sunshine over a wicker bench on my front porch.

In this photo you can see a close up look of the simple loopy quilting.  Easy quilt = easy quilting.

A look at the backing ~ I think this fabric is called Universe?

The binding is made with the same blue dragonfly fabric as the outer border.

If you sew a Thistle quilt, please send me a pic.  I would love to see it.

What's Inside the April 2020 Quilty Box?

Hooray!  The April Quilty Box has arrived!  In these unusual days of staying home and social distancing, getting a Quilty Box delivered is even more (if that's possible) fun and exciting to receive in the mailbox.

Disclaimer:  This subscription box was given to me at no cost by Quilty Box.

The fabric this month is inside a zippered bag.  It's the Library fabric bundle from Robert Kaufman.

Inside the bag is this bright orange, white with random dots, and a Ten-Square pack with a yummy variety of colors and prints.

Bundles of Inspiration, Quilty Box's magazine full of patterns, an interview with Elizabeth Hartman, and lots of inspiration comes packed inside Quilty Box every month.

Do you love Elizabeth Hartman's animal quilt designs?  I'm super excited to sew her Macaws pattern.  Isn't it the cutest?  I hope I can find some time to make this one.

A Clover Wonder Clips wrist cushion.  How interesting!  I love using the Clover Wonder Clips for holding my binding in place.  I'll have to try the wrist cushion and see how I like it.

This is a reusable washable lint roller.  I use my lint roller daily, several times a day to keep my sewing area clean and free of cat hair and dust.  This should come in handy.

Feast your eyes on this delicious Wonderfil Tutti thread!  The color combo is so gorgeous, I could just stare at it all day long and be happy.  I can't wait to sew something with this beauty.
