Summer Breeze Quilt in the New Quilter's World Summer 2022 Issue and Giveaway

This is my newest quilt, Summer Breeze.  It's sewn in soft yellow and blues, like sunshine and blue skies.

The Summer Breeze quilt and pattern appear in the new Summer 2022 issue of Quilter's World magazine.  This issue is on sale now ~ run out and get one today!  If you're feeling lucky, I'll be giving away a digital copy of this magazine at the end of this post.

I used Island Batik's Honey Blue fabric collection, plus their solid white to make the Summer Breeze quilt.  This fabric should be available in local quilt shops now.

The blocks are sewn using an easy strip piecing method.  This pattern plays well with precut 2-1/2" strip packs, or cut your own from yardage.

Sunrise has become my number one tester for quilt comfort.  He appears to approve of this stack of blocks.

I quilted the Summer Breeze quilt with a loopy meander in White Aurifil thread.  It was the last of my big white thread cone.  That did last for a long, long, time.  I need to get another one.  I also used Hobbs Thermore batting for this quilt.  It's very lightweight and perfect for a summer quilt.

Shop Hop Quilt and Pattern in Quilter's World Spring 2022!

Introducing:  Shop Hop!  A cute, fun, and whimsical wall hanging or lap quilt.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this quilt were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.

This is my second quilt and pattern that is featured in the new Spring 2022 issue of Quilter's World.  This should be available in your local quilt shops now.  Run out and get a copy before they're all gone!

I actually made this quilt a couple of years ago, for a different issue.  It ended up not being used for that one, and I didn't even know it was going to be in Spring 2022 until I was paging through my copy.  What a fun surprise!

The fabric collection I used was Soil and Seeds by Island Batik.  It's a beautiful collection, but unfortunately, no longer in shops.  You could still get this same look by using Island Batik basics and blenders in similar colors.  The basics and blenders are always available.  Alternately, you could go with a completely different color scheme.  These blocks are fun to sew by mixing and matching fabrics to give each bag a different look.

Fuzzy helped me with the pressing of my fabrics.

Each block is sewn with a combination of piecing and fusible applique.  I outlined the star flowers with a zigzag stitch in contrasting thread to help them stand out from the yellow background.

I used these beautiful brown and gold Aurifil threads for the piecing, fusible applique, and quilting.

I quilted in simple vertical lines spaced equally apart across the quilt.

The Shop Hop quilt has three borders.

I backed this quilt with this gorgeous dark brown Island Batik fabric.  Yummy!

I used the same brown fabric for binding as the outer border.

Whirligig Quilt and Pattern in Quilter's World Spring 2022!

Introducing:  Whirligig.  This bright happy quilt is ready for some springtime stitching!

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this quilt were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.

Whirligig is featured in the new Spring 2022 issue of Quilter's World.  This just hit local quilt shops yesterday.  Go out and get your copy before they are all snatched up!

I have two patterns in this magazine.  I'll be sharing the second quilt, Shop Hop in my next post.

I used Karen Overton's Sea Glass fabric collection for the Whirligig quilt.  This is one of my favorite Island Batik collections EVER!  The colors sing to my heart and the designs are just as wonderful.

Seriously!  Look at this beautiful blue fish design.  Heavenly and Whimsical!

The Whirligig quilt is a great quilt for scraps.  Each block features two different colors and they can be mixed and matched for maximum sewing fun.  As I sewed these blocks, the color combos made each one a little surprise, and I love them all.

I gave this quilt three borders.  The white one in the middle gives it a little bit of a floating effect.

I quilted in a loopy meander over the entire quilt with white Aurifil thread.

I used Hobbs 80/20 Bleached Cotton Batting.  It quilts wonderfully and gives a nice soft feel to the quilt.

This block has a purple and blue fabric combo.  Notice the curvy wave purple border fabric on the left.

I used Schmetz needles for all the piecing and quilting.  They are the best!

I love this gorgeously bright Island Batik fabric on the back, as well.

This quilt looks right at home on my front porch swing.  I'm sure I'll be using it as soon as the weather warms up a bit.  We are expecting snow this weekend.

Pretty folds!
