Log Cabin Blog Hop Winner!

I did this drawing a while ago, but Oooopsy!  I forgot to announce the winner!  Sorry!
The winner of the Log Cabin Blog Hop giveaway was Kathleen.  She's a regular reader and commenter on my blog and I appreciate her so much!

Kathleen commented, "I do love your quilt and this was a fun one....the stained glass had to take a lot of time! I am always impressed when you go the extra mile and make a knock out quilt like this!"

She won a copy of my new Promises quilt pattern and 5" charms from the Romance Garden fabric collection for Sherry Shish by Island Batik.  Aren't these fabrics gorgeous?  I just love them so much,

Island Batik Ambassador Puff Quilt Blog Hop and Giveaway!

I made a Puff Quilt!  I've never made one of these before.  That is one of the fun aspects of being an Island Batik Ambassador.  The year is filled with challenges to stretch and grow your quilting skills.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this quilt were given to me by Island Batik and Industry Partners.

To make my Puff Quilt, I received half yard cuts of the new Royal Crown fabric collection.  This beautiful blue, green and purple collection should be in quilt shops now.  Royal Crown is a signature collection by Kathy Engle for Heidi Pridemore of the Whimsical Workshop.

Here's a list of a few shops that currently have Royal Crown in stock:
Creekside Quilts (OR)
Hancocks of Paducah (KY)
Stitchin Heaven (TX)
Castle Sewing Centre- CANADA BC
JellyRollFabric.Net (IN)

I went with a random fabric placement for my Puff quilt.  It's not the easiest quilt to get photos of.  Here is my son modeling the Puff quilt.

There is a variety of ways to sew a puff quilt.  I watched several videos online and then went to work.  This is how I made my quilt.  First, I cut 5" squares from each of the fabrics.  I cut out 182 squares for my quilt.  I also cut one extra square of each fabric for my giveaway.  Learn how to enter to win at the end of my post.

I randomly sewed the squares together into a top.  Then I resewed down each seam line and around the edges of the quilt, making a small tuck on all four edges of each square to create the "puff".

I sewed the coordinating Purple and White fabrics I received to go with the Royal Crown collection together to make the quilt backing.

Then I laid my quilt top right sides together with the backing and pinned all around.  I sewed three of the edges together and trimmed the excess backing away, leaving one complete side of the quilt open for stuffing.

I then turned my quilt right sides out and topstitched 1/4" away from the edge on the three sewn sides.  Then I proceeded to sew channels from the bottom edge of the quilt, up, two squares at a time.

I stuffed the first row of squares with about a handful of polyfil for each square.  Once I stuffed the whole row, I sewed a seam all the way across to seal the puffs.  I continued sewing channels, stuffing and sewing across the rows until I completed the entire quilt.  It took a little more than two standard size bags of polyfil to stuff my quilt.  Did I mention it is 13 rows by 14 rows?

I did not have time to take pictures the same day I finished, so I rolled it up with the top inside and the backing outside to keep it clean.  I'm so glad I did because Sunrise wasted no time trying it out!

Here's another photo of the whole puff quilt.  I used Aurifil  thread and Schmetz needles to sew my project.

This is my son, Trent at the end of the photo session.  He wrapped himself up in the Puff quilt, declared it to be his, and ran into the house with it.  I'm glad he likes it.

Here's my giveaway!  I'm giving away one 5" square cut from each of the fabrics in the new Royal Crown collection.  To win, just leave me a comment at the end of this post.  Have you ever made a puff quilt?  Let me know in your comments.  This giveaway is only open to residents of the USA due to shipping costs.  I'll randomly draw a winner at the end of the blog hop.  Please be sure I have a way to contact you, should you be the lucky winner.

Island Batik is also having a giveaway this week on their blog.  You can enter there to win a bundle of the new fabric collections River Walk and Princess Rose. Click here to visit Island Batik Blog and enter to win.
