Happy Scrappy Quilt Top

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this quilt were given to me by Quilty Box at no cost to me.
The Happy Scrappy Quilt top is finished and trying to fly free!

I made this quilt using the Feathering pattern by Giucy Giuce.  It was included in a recent Quilty Box.  I changed up the fabrics by using a charm pack and I love the results!

Here's a close-up of one of the blocks so you can see the fabrics better.
It's a mixture of fabrics from a charm pack and my stash.

Here's a little better picture of the top.  I'm going to back it with a dark blue fabric and I'm planning on quilting it with concentric circles out from the center.  What do you think?

A Happy Scrappy Quilt ~ The Beginning

Disclaimer:  The items used in this project were given to me by Quilty Box at no cost.
Look at these happy, scrappy blocks!  Just seeing them up on my design wall makes me feel good all over, like sunshine on a winter day.

I'm sewing the Feathering quilt by Giucy Giuce.  This is in the Bundles of Inspiration magazine from the December Quilty Box.  I'm making a slightly scrappier version, instead of using all cool tones like Giucy did.

To make my quilt, I'm using the entire charm pack of Quantum fabrics, plus a few light fabrics, and one green fabric that coordinates from my stash.

Here you can see more of the gorgeous jewel tones I'm working with.  I love these colors!  I didn't want them to languish on a shelf somewhere.  They begged to be sewn into a glorious quilt right away.

This pattern works really well with 5" charms.  It calls for making half square triangles with 5" squares, then trimming them to 4-1/2".  Here are some of the blocks that I still need to trim.

These are the blocks that I've trimmed so far.  This is going to be cute!  I'll post an update when I find time to work on this again.  Not today ~ Yesterday I sewed the binding on my Getaway blog hop quilt.  Today, I'll be sewing the sleeve and label.  My day for the hop is coming up on Monday.

What's Inside the Classic Quilty Box?

Disclaimer:  The contents of this box were given to me by Quilty Box at no cost to me.
What's inside the December Quilty Box Classic?  Scissors, and needles, and thread ~ Oh My!  Yes, I'm still catching up from the Winter Break.  And it feels like Winter this morning.  It's 23 degrees and I'm sitting next to the toasty warm wood stove as I write this post.

The December 2018 Quilty Box has their Bundles of Inspiration magazine, as usual.
I always read the featured designer's interview inside.  This month's designer is Giucy Giuce.

There are three patterns in this month's Bundles of Inspiration.  I'm making this one, Feathering, by Giucy Giuce.  I'm using the Quantum charm pack that came in the Quilty Box mini to make a scrappier version of this quilt.  More to come about that in a future post.  Stay tuned!

A beautiful bundle of Quantum fat quarters tied with a bow!

The eight fat quarters in this bundle feature blues, greens, one gray and a white tone on tone.  Do you see the white fabric all the way over on the right?  It blends into my lacy background a bit.

I'm excited to try this wool pressing mat.  There is a lot of buzz about these going around on the Internet.  It should be interesting to try it out.

Oooh!  Fishy snips!  I'm always up for a new pair of scissors, and these are adorable.

Quilty Box must be reading my mind, because I really needed some new hand sewing needles.  I've been scrounging around in the bottom of my sewing box every time I need one lately.  Thank you, Quilty Box.

This month we get double treated to two spools of Aurifil thread!  Iceberg and Medium Teal ~ fabulous and perfect to match the fat quarter fabrics.  Time to sew!

What's Inside the Quilty Box Mini?

Disclaimer:  The contents of this post were given to me by Quilty Box at no cost.
Today we're going to take a peek inside the December Quilty Box Mini.  Yes, I'm a bit behind again.  Now that the holidays are over, all the kiddos are back in school, and my husband actually left the house, I can try to get some quilting time in.  Yay!

If you're not familiar with Quilty Box Mini, it's a smaller version of Quilty Box's monthly subscription box.  You can order just one month to try it out, or subscribe on a month to month basis, or sign up for a 3 month, 6 month, or 12 month plan.  It's so much fun to receive a quilty surprise in my mailbox every month.

The Quilty Box Mini always includes the Bundles of Inspiration magazine.  In this month's issue you get an engaging interview with Giucy Giuce (this month's featured designer), three quilt patterns, plus how to sew a needle book.  That looks like a fast and fun project.

This month's charm pack is Quantum by Giucy Giuce.

Here it is fanned out so you can see the gorgeous jewel tone on tone prints in this collection.  Yummy!

I'm also in love with the Medium Teal color of the Aurifil thread included in this month's Quilty Box Mini!  So gorgeously deep.  I want to dive right in and sew something with this spool right now!

I'll be on the hop on January 21st.  My top is all finished and I can't wait to show my quilt to you.  As always, the Island Batik fabrics really make it shine.  I have a day of quilting ahead of me. Time to sew!
