Whole Cloth Quilt Rescue

I rescued this whole cloth quilt from a local thrift shop for $1.00.

$1.00!!!  It's so sad!  Look at all the work that went into it.  It's in beautiful condition, too.

Here's a closer look at one of the motifs.  Aren't the birds sweet?

A quartet of hearts is quilted in the space between the larger motifs.  The dense pebble quilting makes the designs pop.

An even closer look at one of the simply sweet birds.

This detail shows the heart motifs along the edges of the quilt.  I'm glad I spotted this quilt and was able to give it a loving home.  Have you ever rescued a quilt?  Leave a comment below.

Quilting the Happy Scrappy Quilt

I've begun the quilting on the Happy Scrappy quilt.  This quilt is square and has a design that radiates out from the center, making it a good candidate for concentric circle quilting.  I pin basted this quilt to prepare for quilting on the Janome Memory Craft.

I used a circle template to mark the first circle on my quilt.

I thought it would be fun to try out a few of the specialty stitches on my new sewing machine, so I quilted a circle of tulips.  I may plant another garden further into the quilting.  That was fun!

I'm quilting with a guide to keep the circles about one inch apart.

I got pretty far along, when this happened.  Fuzzy.  He said, "You are done for the evening".  Haha.  He is way too heavy to sit on my quilt while I'm working on it.  I moved him twice, but he kept coming back.  Time to put it away.  I can finish another day.

Log Cabin Quilt Update

I finished the concentric circle quilting on the Log Cabin quilt this week.  The binding has been machine stitched and is ready to be folded over and hand stitched to the back of the quilt.

The quilt top had a few wrinkles to smooth out as I approached the corners.

I stitched my circles about 3/4" apart.

 Almost there!  Corner four.

Sewing binding strips together.  I used the same fabric for my binding as the border of the quilt.

Folded neatly to machine stitch the binding onto the front of the quilt.

I'm so pleased with the look of the quilting!  I can't wait to finish it off one evening on the front porch.  Click here for the Log Cabin Quilt Block Classics Tutorial.  Have you ever sewn a Log Cabin quilt?  Leave a comment below.
