Baroque Star Quilt and Pattern

This is one of my newer quilt patterns.  What I love about this quilt is the clean, classic look.  It was a joy to sew.  Everything fit just perfectly as I sewed it together.  Don't you just love it when that happens?  I'm going to show you some of the steps you will be sewing when you make your own Baroque Star quilt.

Disclaimer:  The fabric for this quilt was given to me by Island Batik.
First, let me show you the fabric collection I used to make Baroque Star.  This is Country Charm for Carol Moellers by Island Batik.  This collection features a lot of blue and orange, plus some lovely coordinating colors to balance it out.

All the pieces are easy to cut out with a rotary cutter and 6" x 24" ruler.  Look at the design on this deep blue batik fabric!  I just love it so much!

This quilt has a lot of flying geese units.  I made a lot of orange and white flying geese.

Can you spot the geese in these blocks?

Another element of this quilt is HST's (half square triangles).  I enjoy chain piecing these units, but I am not a fan of the trimming step!  Do you enjoy trimming?  I've heard that some quilters do, but not me.  Yet, it is necessary to get everything just right, so I do it.

Here is one finished Baroque Star block.  You can see it has a block within a block style.

The Baroque Star quilt has two different block colorways.  The second set of blocks feature blue and white flying geese units.

Two Baroque Star blocks in progress.

After all the blocks are pieced, they are sewn together in simple rows.  The rows are joined to complete the center section of the quilt.

The borders are next.  I made a lot of blue diamond square units for one of the borders.

Here you can see the top is together and the quilt has been quilted.  I quilted in my favorite motif, an allover loopy meander.  I use this for the majority of my quilts, especially when I am short on time.  I did try something new recently that I saw at QuiltCon in Raleigh.  I'll be showing that quilt soon.

After the quilting is finished, the edges are trimmed even to sew on the binding.  I prefer to match my quilt binding to the outer border fabric and I did that for the Baroque Star quilt.

Here's another look at the finished Baroque Star quilt.
