What's Inside the May 2020 Quilty Box?

The May 2020 Quilty Box has finally arrived on my door step.  How nice to get a quilty surprise in my mailbox each month.  New supplies and inspiration without having to leave home.  I love it.

Disclaimer:  The contents of this subscription box were given to me by Quilty Box at no cost to me.
This month's fabric collection is full of cool grays, whites, and blues.  It's the Pottery collection, by Dale Allen-Rowse a.k.a. the Quilting Cowboy for Windham Fabrics.

Inside Bundles of Inspiration you can read an interview with the Quilting Cowboy and sew his pattern Cross Play in two sizes.

This month's box also includes a new pack of Gold-Eye Milliners needles!

A pack of Sew Tites Dots.  These strong magnets can be used in place of pins.

An acrylic template for the Cross Play quilt.

A mask hook.  I'm assuming this is some sort of tool for making face masks, but I'm not sure how to use it.  I'll have to look it up.

Happy Scrappy Quilt ~ Finished Quilting!

It feels so good to get back to the Happy Scrappy quilt.  I'm nearly finished.  This sewing session I completed the concentric circle quilting.  This pattern is by Guicy Guice.  I received it in a previous month's Quilty Box.

I quilted concentric circles about an inch apart using this pretty variegated thread; it's #305, Poly Quilter, by Superior Threads.  As you can see, every now and then I stitched a  machine embroidery motif for fun.

But mostly I just went around, and around, and around with a standard straight stitch.

I wanted to take a quick clothesline pic of the quilted Happy Scrappy top.  The wind picked up and Trail Mix did a casual photobomb.

More wind, and Trail Mix casually strolling away to investigate something else.

Another big gust.  I love windy quilt photos.  It makes the quilt seem "alive".

Now I'm ready to make some binding.  I like to sew binding that matches the outer border, but in this case my outer border is a multitude of colorful triangles.  What color should I bind with?  Please leave your suggestion in the comments.  Thank you.

The Ultimate Home Decor Blog Hop featuring Smooch by Island Batik ~ Plus a Giveaway!

Hello!  Thanks for joining me today for my little corner of Island Batik's Ultimate Home Decor Blog Hop.  I'm showcasing the gorgeous new Smooch by Kathy Engle fabric collection.

Disclaimer:  These fabrics were given to me by Island Batik at no cost to me.
This month's Island Batik Ambassador challenge is to make a home decor item using as many fabrics as possible from our assigned fabric collection.  These are the "Surprise" fabrics we received in box one.  I got the Smooch by Kathy Engle fabric line, pinks, yellows, and greens.

I knew immediately that I wanted to make seat cushions for my kitchen chairs.  I've been wanting to make these for a long time.  The challenge gave me an extra push.  I was able to use all 20 fabrics by using one fabric for the top of the cushion, one for the bottom, one for the ruffle and one for the ties.  I made five cushions.

This photo shows the bottom side of the cushions and the ties.
I'm really pleased with how well they turned out.

As you can see, the colors work well in my kitchen.

I used Aurifil's Verona Mauve thread collection to sew my cushions.  These soft neutral colors with a hint of pink blended well with all of the Smooch fabrics.

I used Schmetz Microtex Sharp Needles for all of the stitching as well.
