What's inside the Quilty Box Mini? May 2018

Disclaimer:  The items in this post were given to my by Quilty Box.
What's inside the May 2018 Quilty Box Mini?  This month's Quilty Box mini features designer Violet Craft. You get the Bundles of Inspiration mini magazine, including an interview with Violet Craft, one of her patterns, and more.  Plus this cute Canyon Jewels Runner pattern, pictured above.

You can sew the runner with this cute charm pack of Palm Canyon fabrics. I love the mid century feel of this collection.

Look at this luscious color!  I can't wait to sew with this 12 wt Egyptian cotton thread, Spaghetti by Wonderfil.  Minty green paradise.  Oh yes.

Vintage Pre-Loved Quilt Rescue

I rescued this vintage quilt from my local thrift shop last week for $1.00.  It has some cosmetic issues, but I really fell in love with it, and the price was right.

Some of the fabrics are worn, but the variety and design is wonderful.  I feel like this quilt has been through a lot of love.

It's all hand quilted, too.  Really nice work.

Here's a close up of a few blocks.

Some interesting repairs have been made to this quilt in the past.

The back of the quilt has also been pieced together - so fun!  You can see the quilting in this photo, plus a lot of repairs along the edges.  I'm glad to have found this tattered treasure.

Quilty Box ~ May 2018

Disclaimer:  The contents of this box were given to me by Quilty Box.
It's time for this month's Quilty Box!  I can hardly wait to see what's inside.  It's so much fun getting a quilty surprise in my mailbox every month.

Inside this month's box:  Bundles of Inspiration mini-zine.  This month's featured designer is Violet Craft.  (Love her name!)  You can read an exclusive interview with her inside Bundles of Inspiration, sew her County Seat Quilt pattern, and get tips on paper piecing.

A nice chunky fat quarter bundle of Violet Craft's Palm Canyon fabric collection!  I love these fabrics.  The designs are very mid-century.  They will go great with my Pyrex collection.  Maybe I will sew something for my kitchen with these.

I'm going to fan the fabrics out so you can get a better view.  Isn't that turquoise just dreamy?

I love these Every Sewn Thread Snips!  They will be going right next to my sewing machine.  Just perfect for thread trimming.

This month's thread is WonderFil Spaghetti Thread.  It's a hefty 12 wt Egyptian cotton.  I love, love, love, this color.  I can't wait to sew something with it.  This thread was also designed by Violet to go with the Palm Canyon fabric collection.

This nifty little seam roller is to be used in place of an iron.  It should be handy for paper piecing, or sewing on the go.

Simplicity Rotary Cutting Machine

I found this at the Goodwill last weekend.  I thought it would be worth taking a gamble on the $6.99 "as is" price tag.  It looked to be in good shape and the instructions were included inside the box.

This is the machine, after taking it out of the box at home.  It's a nice compact size.  Easy to move around, yet enough weight to it that it doesn't slip around or fall over when in use.

Finger protection, too.  I need that.  My machine only came with the pinking blade.  That was the "as is" factor.  I will have to order a straight blade online somewhere.

I pulled this orange fabric out of my scrap basket to try it out.

It was easy to adjust the strip width.

I set it to 2", plugged in the cute little foot pedal and stepped on the gas.
It was fun!  It was a little tricky to feed the fabric through straight, but it might go better if I were sitting down.  I'm sure it will get better with practice, too.

Here are the three strips I cut out of the orange fabric.  I'll be using these to cut hexagons, so the accuracy isn't that crucial.  In all, this machine is super fun to use.  I can see myself cutting all my scraps into strips with it in the future.  Yee-ha!

Spring Spruce Up ~ Hydrangea Wreath Product Review

Disclaimer:  This product was given to me by Commercial Palm Trees in exchange for an honest, unbiased product review.
It's Spring, and while my yard is full of blooms, I can always use a few more!  Plus this silk Hydrangea wreath from Commercial Palm Trees will never stop providing beautiful blue blooms.  This is how it looked right out of the sturdy shipping box.

I currently have a Hydrangea blooming in my yard, so I thought it would be nice to show the silk Hydrangea and the natural Hydrangea together for comparison.  The blooms on the wreath are a little smaller than the blooms on the plant, but I really like the wild, natural look of the wreath.

I had fun posing the wreath in a number of different locations.  Here it is on the outside of my house, close to the door to my quilting studio. One of the nice features I noticed is the way this wreath is put together on the back.  There are many different options for hanging the wreath so it is easy to position however you like.

It looks lovely on my front porch glider, too.  The wreath is sturdily made and the vines are woven together nicely on the back.

The wild, natural look of this wreath gives it a romantic look.  I really like it on this window over my bed.  It would look even better if I repainted the window frame.

Have you ever hung a wreath over a mirror?  I love this look, too.  It really adds another dimension and texture to this cottage chic display.

I ended with it on one side of my double front door.  Here it is open to my foyer.  So welcoming!
I'm still undecided on where it's permanent spot will be.  Where did you like it the most?  Please leave a comment below.  If I've inspired you to bring a little blooming beauty into your home, here's a 10% discount for you ~ just use code BLOGGER10 at checkout.  Click here to shop now:  Commercial Palm Trees.
