EQ8 Drawing Foundation Paper Pieced Blocks Class Review

Hello everyone.  I wanted to let you know about the terrific online classes available now at ElectricQuilt.com. They are currently offering four online classes you can take right now:  Beginner, Next Steps, Master Skills, and Drawing Foundation Paper Pieced Blocks.  I've been designing my quilts with Electric Quilt software almost as long as I've been a quilter.  I just love playing with the blocks and coloring and recoloring until I get it just the way I like it.  I've designed a few FPP (foundation paper pieced) blocks with EQ in the past, but I didn't really enjoy the process.  I was excited to learn more.

The class is taught by Jenny Novinsky.  It's divided up into short segments that you can pause, rewatch, and easily mark your place if you need to take a break.  I spent a few hours over two days taking the class.  The class includes a downloadable syllabus and photos to use for the drawing sessions.  The class teaches you how to edit an existing block, how to import images for tracing to draw a brand new block, how to evaluate the image for drawing, and how to draw tricky elements like curves. (see the coffee cup block, above).  One of the class blocks was a small coffee cup that I played with and turned into a tall coffee cup.  I used my signature fabric collection, Songbird, from Island Batik,Lumin Fabrics to color the block. I learned a lot of helpful tricks and tips that made drawing FPP blocks so much easier.

I'm in the process of drawing a giraffe FPP block and also a witchy hat FPP block (tis the season!).  I'm playing with the idea of a giraffe wearing a witchy hat. What do you think?  I have so many new ideas from taking the class.  It's truly inspiring.  I would recommend taking the Drawing Foundation Paper Pieced Blocks if you want to learn more about the process, and if you already have reached a proficient drawing level in Electric Quilt.  If you're not that familiar with the basic tools, I would recommend taking the other three classes before diving into this one.  You can get a special price by bundling the first three classes, rather than purchasing separately.  Get a preview of all the Electric Quilt At Home online classes right here:  EQ At Home Classes

I hope you give them a try!
