Sunflower Spice Blog Hop and Giveaway

Hello!  Welcome to the first day of the Sunflower Spice blog hop!  Thanks for stopping by.  Sunflower Spice is my new signature fabric collection with Island Batik, Lumin Fabrics, designed by Jerry Khiev.

The Sunflower Spice collection is a beautiful rainbow of fabric:  Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple.  Designs include sunflowers, leaves, tossed petals, and foliage.  It is simply gorgeous and has something for everyone.  You can make a rainbow quilt, or a cool lime, teal, and purple quilt, or a sizzling hot red, yellow and orange quilt, and so on and so forth and what have you.  The combinations are endless.  I love it.  I hope you do, too. The Sunflower Spice fabric collection and accompanying patterns should be arriving local quilt shops now.

I made four new quilts and patterns to support the Sunflower Spice fabric line.  Here are my quilts:

Any Which Way

This playful design incorporates flying geese blocks in thirteen different colorways and are arranged "Any Which Way" to create the design.  I love the secondary design where the blocks come together, it's kind of like an extended four patch.  This quilt finishes at 56" x 72" and includes instructions to make a dark version as well.  To see more pics of this quilt and learn more about it, read my earlier blog post, here:  Any Which Way Quilt and Pattern - NEW!  The pattern is available in the Curlicue Creations Etsy shop as either a PDF instant download or a paper copy via US Mail.

Patio

The Patio quilt was inspired by a childhood memory.  As a young girl I loved jumping back and forth on my Grandmother's patio, twisting my feet to land the same direction as the bricks.  This quilt is all about the simple joys of being a child.  The variety of bright rainbow bricks criss crossing this quilt top are made with a stitch and flip technique.  They are very easy and fun to sew.  This quilt finishes at 82" x 90".  The pattern is available in the Curlicue Creations Etsy shop as either a PDF Instant Download or a paper copy via US Mail.

Rivulet

Rivulet uses all 20 of the fabrics in the Sunflower Spice collection and can be made with a fat quarter bundle.  This rainbow diagonal design is made with half square triangle units and also uses solid black and white fabrics.  The finished quilt measures 42" x 50" for a great couch cuddler, throw quilt, or child size.  The pattern is available in the Curlicue Creations Etsy shop as a PDF Instant Download or a paper copy via US Mail.

Sonata

The fourth quilt I made with Sunflower Spice is Sonata.  If you follow me regularly, you know I love to do fusible applique.  I usually have at least one fusible applique pattern in every collection.  This time around it's a colorful flower design with strong black sashing to separate the blocks.  Notice the circular design created where the blocks and sashing come together.  This quilt uses all 20 of the Sunflower Spice fabrics and can be made with a fat quarter bundle or quarter yard cuts, plus solid black, white, and yardage for the border.  The finished quilt measures 59-1/2" x 73".  The pattern is available in the Curlicue Creations Etsy shop as a PDF Instant Download or a paper copy via US Mail.

Timeless Traditions Blog Hop featuring Summertime

This is Summertime, the quilt I made for the Timeless Traditions blog hop.

It's blog hop time for the Island Batik Ambassadors (Lumin Fabrics)!  This is the month we showcase all the new fabric collections coming to your local shops.  It is a lot of fun.  This time around we were challenged to make a quilt with at least five traditional quilt blocks.  We were given a list of blocks to choose from.   

The fabric I received for the challenge is Hello Sunshine, designed by Jerry Khiev.  Isn't it beautiful?  This has got to be one of my favorite collections that I've worked with as an Island Batik Ambassador.  It's all pink and yellow with a touch of red ~ fabulous!

I used my Accuquilt Go Qube 8" Block dies to cut out all of the pieces for my blocks.  So quick and easy!

I did the math to figure out how many pieces I needed from each die and then cut them randomly from the fabrics.  I used all 20 of the Hello Sunshine fabrics.

Here is one of the blocks I made, using four half square triangle blocks.  For this quilt, I wanted to experiment with random color placement, instead of placing light and dark contrasting fabrics next to each other to make the design.  I wanted to create a hot and melty looking quilt where the elements of each block flowed into each other.

I used Island Batik's solid black to sew the blocks into three strips, creating a lightning strike zigzag pattern separating the blocks from each other.  I like the way the black makes the blocks pop out, like stained glass windows, but I'm also curious to try making the random melty blocks again and setting them together without any sashing or other fabric breaking the mood. I hope I have time to experiment with this idea in the future.

I used my Oliso iron to press all the seams nice and flat.

I used Hobbs Premium 80/20 Black Cotton Batting for this project.  This batting works well when you are making a quilt with a lot of black in it.

I quilted in an allover loopy meander.  I used a lovely light yellow fabric from the collection for the backing and bound it with this pretty pink ferny fabric.

Berry Crush Blog Hop and Giveaway

Hello!  Welcome to the first day of the Berry Crush blog hop.  Thanks for stopping by.  Berry Crush is my new signature fabric collection with Island Batik, Lumin Fabrics, designed by Jerry Khiev.

The Berry Crush collection features beautiful colors in a range of pinks and purples. The designs include berries, flowers, and foliage.  It is simply gorgeous and my favorite signature collection so far.  These fabrics make my heart happy.  I hope you feel the same way.  There are 20 fabrics in this collection.  It should be in local quilt shops now.

I made three quilts and patterns to support the Berry Crush fabric line.  Here are my quilts:

Balcony Bouquet

The Balcony Bouquet quilt was a joy to design and make.  I used fusible applique for the flower blocks, which I just adore. The alternating pieced blocks are fun and easy to make and complement the applique perfectly.  You can't see it well in this photo, but I custom quilted this piece.  I will show off the quilting in a future post dedicated to the Balcony Bouquet quilt.  This pattern is available in the Curlicue Creations Etsy Shop as both a PDF download and as a paper pattern (via U.S. Mail).

Chimes

For the Chimes quilt, I went with a dark palette.  As you can see, the Berry Crush fabrics glow against Island Batik's solid black.  I used the dark blue Berry Crush fabric for the setting triangles in this quilt, and I just love the midnight effect it gives to the design.  This quilt is also set on-point.  All blocks are pieced.  Get the pattern in the Curlicue Creations Etsy Shop today!

Lindy Hop

The third quilt I created with Berry Crush is Lindy Hop.  If you love the look of curvy quilts, but don't enjoy sewing curved seams, this pattern is for you!  Lindy Hop uses easy fusible applique to sew these crisp looking curvy blocks.  I used the entire Berry Crush collection for this quilt and had a ball mixing up the colors and fabrics.  You can use as many or as few Berry Crush fabrics as you like to make this stunning quilt.  This pattern is now available in the Curlicue Creations Etsy Shop and select quilt shops across the USA.
