Fly Away Island Batik Challenge featuring Breakers

This month for my Island Batik Ambassador challenge I made the Breakers table runner.  I'm moving to coastal Carolina soon, so I've got the ocean on my mind.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this project were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.

The challenge requirements for Fly Away were to sew a project featuring Flying Geese units and Island Batik precuts. I love Flying Geese.  They're so versatile.  I use them in a lot of my designs.

One of the precuts I received in my Island Batik Ambassador box this time is Tantalizing Teal in 2-1/2" strips.  So lovely!  So refreshing! These fabrics say "ocean" to me.

If you live in North Carolina like me, you can find Tantalizing Teal at Loving Stitches in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

There are too many shops to list them all, but some of the other shops with Tantalizing Teal include:
Stitchin' Heaven ~ TX
Missouri Star ~ MO
Elaine's Attic ~ SC
Creekside Quilts ~ OR
Hancocks of Paducah ~ KY
Creations Quilt Shop ~ MN
Gardensong ~ MS
Quilters Headquarters ~ SD
Red Roof Quilting ~ MT

There are a lot of ways to make Flying Geese units, and I've tried many.  For this project, I used my Accuquilt 8" Qube dies.  It was fast and easy to cut the pieces I needed from the strip pack.

I paired the Tantalizing Teal strips with Island Batik solid white.  For each block, I made four Flying Geese units.

Here you can see three of the Flying Geese units sewn together.  One more will go on top to make a    4-1/2" x 8-1/2" block.

I pieced the Breakers table runner on my Singer 301. My Janome Memory Craft needs a repair, so I've been using this vintage machine for the last several projects.  I love sewing on the 301 so much!  Do you have a vintage machine that you love?

I quilted the Breakers table runner with a swirly design to make it look even more like waves curling and breaking at the seaside.  I used Hobbs Premium Cotton batting and quilted with Aurifil 2908.

The 2908 is the lightest green thread from Aurifil's Walking Palm Color Builder Set.  It's the one all the way on the left in the photo.

Here's another look at the completed project.

Fresh and ready for my new coastal home.

I love how the colors from the Tantalizing Teal collection play together.  I used my favorite Schmetz needles for all the stitching.

I backed my project with Frog.  This fabric is available year round.

I used some of the darkest green strips from the precuts pack for the binding.
