Log Cabin Blog Hop ~ Featuring Cabin Crossing

Hello and welcome to my little corner of the Island Batik Ambassador Log Cabin Blog Hop!  I'm so happy you stopped by.  This is the quilt I made, Cabin Crossing.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this quilt were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners at no cost to me.

The objective for this hop is to make a Log Cabin quilt in any style and, at least 36" x 36".  My quilt is quite a bit bigger to showcase the fun design you get when you put together the blocks I used.

My quilt was made with Island Batik's new Bloomers collection.  This collection has beautiful pinks, purples, periwinkle, and white fabrics.  The Bloomers fabric line should be in your local quilt shop soon.  So get out there and snatch some up before it sells out!

I used my Accuquilt Go and my 2" strip cutting die to cut all of the strips for this quilt, so it was quick, easy, and fun to prep.

This is one completed block.  I found this block design in the Electric Quilt library and figured out how to create it using my math skills.  I was so excited when I finished my first block.  Math is not my favorite thing.

I used Schmetz Microtex Sharp Needles and various Aurifil threads to piece the blocks.

The top went together pretty quickly.  Then I loaded it onto my frame and began the quilting process.  This year one of my goals is to improve my quilting skills.

I used these three Aurifil threads for the quilting.  The medium pink came from Aurifil's new Sardinia Pink Color Builder collection, and the other two threads were in my existing thread stash.

It's hard to see, but I did a fun squares pattern in the outer purple border that was a new design for me.  Then I quilted a loopy back and forth circle pattern in the second border.  I did all over swirls with the pink thread over the center of the quilt.

I used a large piece of the Hobbs Heirloom Natural Cotton Batting for this quilt.  It quilted beautifully.

I'm pretty happy with the results.  You can see the wide variety of prints in the Bloomers collection in this photo.  I used every fabric in the collection for my quilt.

 Pretty folds.

A little peek at the back of my quilt.  I used a white neutral fabric by Island Batik for the backing.

I bound the quilt using the same deep purple fabric as the outer border of the quilt.  I love this fabric so very much!

Cabin Crossing on my front porch.  Trees are beginning to bloom here, but it's still chilly.

Cabin Crossing in my kitchen with a bouquet of beautiful white flowers.  Bloomers with the Bloomers collection.

A few more pretty folds.

(Be sure I have a way to contact you if you are the chosen one)

While you're at the Island Batik blog, be sure to enter the giveaway there for a pack of Jackie Kunkel's new Ancient Etchings fabric.  Good luck!  I'll be drawing a winner for the Bloomers fabric when the blog hop is over.

  1. While there are fabrics I like--very much--in each of the collections, I really like each of the fabrics in Ancient Etchings, so that is my favorite of these collections. But once again, Island Batik has rolled out so many great patterns and colors and fabrics I am going to want to have in my stash.
