Sewing Triangle Squares

Here I am, sewing my triangle squares on my modern Elna, instead of my "new" vintage Elna.  Sigh!  As I was cleaning and maintaining the Elna Super 62, I discovered that it takes a special bobbin, which I didn't have.  I ordered some, and now I'm waiting...waiting....waiting...I detest waiting!

While I'm waiting, I'm sewing the setting for my quilt.  Here's my little pile of triangle squares.

And here's a lot of them up on the design wall.  They're all in yellows, blues, and greens, although the green looks like black in this photo.  The colors coordinate with my Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 4 test blocks that I showed a few days ago.

The triangle squares are then joined into pairs to make these cool diagonal stripes.  Half of them will go this way, and half of them will go the opposite way.

These are fun and easy to sew.  Nothing to really match up either - low stress sewing.

When I look at all of these together, I see the beginnings of another quilt.  There is something interesting going on here.  I will have to play with it and see what I can create.  I often discover the start of a new quilt idea by playing with block elements on my design wall.

Elna Super 62 Vintage Sewing Machine

I'm so excited!  My husband brought home this somewhat beat up old Elna Super 62.  I can't wait to get her cleaned up, maintained, and sewing.  I've heard these old Elna Supers are real workhorses.  Lucky me, she came with the original manual and a box full of cams.  Should be fun!

This is the carrying case.  It's pretty neat.  See the cutout?  It fits around the bed of the machine for maximum sewing space.  Yahoo!

Earlier this week I cut out and prepared these two baggies of squares.  They will be my test subjects, when Elna is ready to roll. More to come on that quilting project, soon.

Do you own any vintage machines?  Do you have a favorite?  Leave a comment below.
