Starry Dawn Quilt and Pattern ~ New!

A new year and a new pattern.  2023 is going to be a great year, I just know it.  This is the Starry Dawn quilt.

Starry Dawn is a log cabin variation that incorporates a star block in the middle, where the chimney fire would be in a traditional log cabin block.

The Starry Dawn pattern is available in my Etsy Shop and in select quilt shops across the USA.
It is one of the quilts I made for the Island Batik catalog.

My son Levi, assisted with the photo session for this quilt.

I used Island Batik's new Baby Bloomers fabric collection to make the Starry Dawn quilt.  Island Batik provided the fabric for this project.  Thank you, Island Batik.

I used Hobbs wool batting and quilted an allover loopy meander.

Pretty folds.

I backed this quilt with this colorful Jellybean fabric, also by Island Batik.  Isn't it cheerful?  It makes me feel good, just looking at these colors.

I made my binding from the same purple fabric as the outer border.  I do that with most of my quilts.  I like the binding to match, not compete for attention.

Another look at the Starry Dawn quilt.

Foxface Quilt and Pattern ~ New!

This is the Foxface quilt, my newest pattern.  It's featured in the Island Batik catalog.  This pattern is available in my Etsy shop and in select quilt shops across the USA.  I used Island Batik's new Honeycomb fabric collection to make this quilt.  Island Batik provided the fabric for this project.

The Foxface blocks are pieced and soooo adorable!  If you are following me on social media, you've probably seen snippets of the Foxface quilt all week.

Four Foxface blocks together make this fun unit.  The Foxfaces are sewn in three different color combinations.

The Foxface quilt finishes at 43" x 55".

I quilted Foxface in an allover loopy meander.

You can see the hot pink backing fabric, and the binding in this photo.

I Made a New Window Quilt!

If you didn't know, I live in an old, old, farmhouse.  It's drafty in the winter.  The wind blows straight at the front of the house and sometimes it feels like it's coming right on through.  Sometime in the last year the bedroom curtain that was on this window went kaput!  Since then it has been covered with this makeshift and super ugly green sheet.  Not very attractive, it fell down regularly, and it was certainly not going to help at all with the cold weather on the way.

Did you see the beautiful Christmas stocking I made for my November Island Batik Ambassador project?  I used fabric from this Emperor's Treasures strip pack.  I still had a lot of fabric left, and just look at these gorgeous colors!  I decided to use it up to make a quilted curtain.

I began by cutting the light purple coordinating fabric into 2-1/2" strips and sewed it together with the Emperor's Treasures strips.

I then sub cut into 2-1/2" strip sets.

After sewing the strip sets together, I added a couple of coordinating light purple strips of Island Batik fabric from my stash to each side of the checkerboard panel to make it the right size to cover my window.

I loaded it onto my quilting frame, using Hobbs Thermore batting.  This is a thin, lightweight batting, perfect for this project.

I quilted in a swirly pattern.  I love quilting swirls, and I'm so glad I did.  It looks really pretty on the finished project.

Here is my finished quilted curtain panel. It looks so pretty with the light shining through. I bought a new curtain rod and installed it myself.  I made ties with some of the 2-1/2" fabric strips, so I can roll it up and let the sun shine in on pleasant days.  And on chilly days, like today I will have a better barrier to the cold, and a pretty room decoration.  These window quilts are really easy to make, and help insulate a drafty window.  I simply sewed a sleeve across the back for hanging.

Coastal Stars Quilt, Pattern, and Kit in the Connecting Threads Catalog

Photo of Coastal Stars quilt by Connecting Threads

This is the Coastal Stars quilt.  I went a little outside of my usual color styling and tried a new combination with this pattern.  The terra cotta, green, purple, and gray together give this quilt a bold, yet restful look.  Finishing at 46" x 58", this quilt is the perfect size for a cuddly couch throw.
