Here's a Craigslist quilt rescue. My husband picked this up for free from a Craigslist ad. It's a vintage quilt, obviously made with a variety of necessity fabrics, sewn together and tied to finish. It's in pretty good condition ~ no holes or tears.
The back of this quilt is made from old feed sacks sewn together.
They are all sewn with the fronts facing the inside, but I can still read them (backwards). This one is from the Sanford Milling Company, a local business here in Henderson, North Carolina. They are still in operation. I sent them a message this morning to see if I can find out how old this is.
This one is from Statesville, North Carolina.
This one is from Washington D.C. How fun to rescue an old quilt like this! I wonder what clothing the original fabrics were from, who used it, when was is made, what the history of this quilt is? I wonder who the original maker was and their story. It will most likely remain a mystery. I hope you enjoyed seeing it, too.
