Purple Passion Quilt

Today I'm showing the Purple Passion quilt.  This quilt features curvy paper pieced blocks with a matching border of squares and triangles.

Quilt Stats:
Quilt Size:  82-1/2" x 94-1/2"
Block Size:  12" x 12"
Fabric: Tonga Batiks and Pop, by Timeless Treasures
Batting:  Warm 100, by the Warm Company
Thread:  King Tut, by Superior

These are the beautiful fabrics used in the Purple Passion quilt. The quilt top features four purple batiks and one charcoal fabric.  The second from the bottom is the backing fabric.

The Purple Passion block features paper foundation pieced curved sections alternating with the charcoal fabric.

In this photo you can see the border.  The border echoes the curved block design with pieced squares and triangles in the same color sequence.  You can also see the swirl quilting design.  I only quilted over the charcoal fabric, using a matching thread.

Here is a photo of the Purple Passion quilt on my bed.  It fits well!  I have a King sized bed.  This would drape over the sides nicely on a Queen size, too.

The Purple Passion quilt and pattern are featured in the new issue of Modern Quilts Unlimited, Issue 21.  It begins on page 14.  This should be available at your local quilt shops now, or you can order either a digital or print copy online here:  MQU Issue 21

If you sew a Purple Passion quilt, please share a photo.  I would love to see it!

Quilting the Supernova Quilt

So, I quilted about half of the Supernova quilt last week.  I'm planning on finishing the quilting today.  I chose this Olde Golde King Tut thread from Superior Threads.  I really like the way it looks against all the bright colors of the Supernova quilt.

Life has been a little crazy at my house for the past couple of weeks, so I'm just doing a stress-free all over loopy meander design.  Here's how it looks against the black in the border.

And here is how it looks over the pieced blocks.  I'm feeling a little guilty that I didn't challenge myself to a more involved quilting design, but sometimes I just need to do something relaxing and fun.  How do you approach your quilting?  Please leave a comment below.

Supernova Quilt ~ Block Three and Beyond

This is Block Three for the Supernova quilt.  I love it!  The drama of the bright batiks mixed with the black really packs a punch.

I sewed four Block Three's for the Supernova quilt.

Here are all of the blocks sewn together.  Just lovely.  See how the light eminates from the center of the quilt?  It really draws the eye, and even though this quilt is a riot of bright colors, when I meditate on it, I get a calm, peaceful, happy feeling.  Do you feel it?

I'm currently working on the borders, and the quilting shall begin next!
Stay tuned for more updates.

Supernova ~ Cutting Out a New Quilt Design

 Supernova Quilt
This quilt and pattern was originally published in Quilts from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, as Cosmic Blast.  I love the color explosion in this quilt so much, I've decided to redo the quilt and release it as a new Curlicue Creations pattern, Supernova, hopefully sometime this year.

I cut most of the fabrics this week.  All fabrics are coming out of my stash ~ nothing new.  This gorgeous swirly dot print from Timeless Treasures is going to be used for all of the black in the quilt.
I love batik fabrics, and am putting a lot of them into this project.  I'm using this Red Orange for some of the triangle pieces.

And this darker Red Orange batik will help to add depth to the design.

I'll post more updates as this quilt develops.

Timeless Treasures Tonga Batiks Teaser

I started a new project this week.  I'm using the Salsa Tonga Batiks fabric collection, by Timeless Treasures.  The fabric on the bottom is my backing fabric.

Look at how this fabric glows in Guava!

I started cutting into the Guava fabric first.  Squares.  So telling, eh?...what could it be?
Wait and see!

Have a wonderful day,

Jennifer Schifano Thomas
