What's Inside the February 2021 Quilty Box? Butterfly Window!

I can't begin to tell you how exciting it is when you receive a Quilty Box in the mail.  The anticipation of opening the box at this point is almost overwhelming!  Emotions run high.  What could be inside?  It's a great surprise, and I've always loved surprises.

Everything inside the box is neatly wrapped inside some crisp, white tissue paper.  It makes it feel even more like you are opening a gift.

Disclosure:  The contents of this subscription box were given to my by Quilty Box at no cost to me.
This month's fabric collection is Spring Shimmer by Jennifer Sampou.  Jennifer has created some beautiful fabric collections over the years.  I'm a fan.

She hit it out of the park with these fabrics.  You get beautiful colors, the butterfiles, gold, and some gorgeous woven textures.  Sigh....it's dreamy.

This month's Bundles of Inspiration magazine has an interview with Jennifer Sampou, a pattern to make her Butterfly Window quilt, and more.

This handy pair of snips was also included.  I can always use another pair of these.  They tend to migrate around the house wherever I'm sewing.

The Sewing Edge ~ These are reusable strips to put on your machine bed to adjust your seam allowance.

Aurifil thread ~ my favorite!  I didn't have this gorgeous honey color and I'm happy to add it to my thread collection.

I was so in love with the Spring Shimmer fabrics that I started on the Butterfly Window quilt the same day I received my box.

It's a pretty easy pattern.  Mostly you cut out squares in a few different sizes.

Look at this sweet fabric!  It's like a honeycomb.  I adore it.

Cutting, cutting, cutting...

And then to the stitching part.  Here's some of my squares laid out to make half square triangles.  I'm not following the color combinations exactly.  I mixed it up a bit.  The pattern is very specific and tells you which fabrics to match up for the half square triangles.  I decided to create two piles of lights and darks and let randomness out to play.  I sewed all the HST's together and had to pack it up for some deadline sewing projects.  I hope I get to finish this top soon.

Windy Mills Update

A short update on the Windy Mills quilt.  These blocks are not all sewn together yet, but they're close.  Should I add a border?  I'm not sure if this needs one, or just a teal color binding.  What do you think?  Leave me a comment below.

A Happy Scrappy Finish

I finished the Happy Scrappy quilt!  This project took a long time as I worked on it in between other quilts.

I quilted this one with concentric circles out from the center.  One of the fun things I did on this quilt was to add a couple of circles of machine embroidery stitches.  See the colorful tulips?

I'm not sure what this stitch is called, but it's adding a pretty touch to the quilt.  If you try this, be aware that it takes a looooooong time to get around each circle with machine embroidery stitches, as they are much more detailed than a regular straight quilting stitch.

I really like the way this quilt came out.  The pattern and most of the fabric is by Guicy Guice.

The pattern and fabric came in a Quilty Box.  Quilty Box is a monthly subscription box for quilters.  Each month you receive fabric, patterns, thread, notions, and inspiration in your mailbox.  It's so much fun!

Doesn't this quilt look inviting, sitting on the front porch glider?

I used a solid Navy Blue for the backing fabric.

I bound the edge with a bright medium blue.

Pretty folds.

Flying free in the January sunshine.

Skipping Stones Quilt ~ A Quilty Box Project

I started a new project!

Disclaimer:  The products used in this post were given to me by Quilty Box.
Ragamuffin is SEW excited!

I'm making the Skipping Stones quilt from the November 2020 Bundles of Inspiration magazine in Quilty Box.

This quilt design is by Natalie Barnes.  I'm using her Norma Rose fabrics that were also included in Quilty Box (top fabric in photo), plus a bunch of random neutral fabrics from my stash (bottom fabric in photo).

I was able to use my Accuquilt 8" Qube to cut out some of the pieces.  This made the cutting part of the quilt go super fast.

There are two sizes of HST's (half square triangles) in this quilt.  I used Jackie Kunkel's 4-1/2" Square from another Quilty Box to square up my blocks.  It worked really well.

Just one afternoon of sewing and I had everything cut out.

All of the half square triangles have been sewn and trimmed.

Sew cute small HS triangles before trimming.

My design wall with large and small HST units.

I even had time to begin sewing some of my HST's into blocks.  Woo-Hoo!  This quilt is moving right along.  I can't wait to finish sewing the blocks in my next step.
