Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 5 - Blog Tour

Greetings Blog-Hoppers!  Are you ready for a Polka Party?  I hope you are all having a splendorous time visiting the designer's blogs for the Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 5 blog tour. I'm so, so very happy you could stop by Curlicue Creations today.  Read on, as I will be giving away a copy of the upcoming issue at the end of this post, plus a couple of surprises from the Curlicue Creations Shop.

Polka Party

Here is the block I made for the issue.  I've been doing a lot of playing with polka dots lately, so out came the Polka Party block.  I haven't made a quilt with it yet, but I've got some ideas floating around.

Here's one I made in another colorway.  I haven't done the zig-zag stitching around the applique pieces yet.  I didn't really like the colors at first, but it's been sitting out in my studio for about a week and it's growing on me.  Kind of tropical looking, I think.  The kids like it.

Here's some quilt ideas for the Polka Party block.  I thought this looked nice as a simple wall hanging with a lot of Ker-Pow! to it.

Then, if you put a few of these together, you get this marvy design.  I might go with that, in a scrappy version, same colorway, just scrappy fabrics from my stash.

I also changed up the colors and setting to come up with another quilt.  Splendid!  The aqua blues and greens really pop against the solid black here.

And for something completely different, I came up with this red, white, and black quilt with no sashing and just a simple border.  This one reminds me of ladybugs.

I also did block testing for this issue again - for the last time - boo-hoo!  I have really enjoyed being a block tester.  It was so much fun to try out different techniques as I happily stitched away on different designer's blocks for this issue.  Sadly, after testing for three issues, I have been retired to make way for others.  I hope they enjoy it as much as I did.  It was a wonderful experience.  Thank you so much, Quiltmaker!  Here's a peek at a sampler quilt I made for Volume 5 using some of the blocks I tested.

Wedding Chapel Windows

I used the fabric collection Mosaic from Timeless Treasures.  Simply radiant fabric - I loved it!  This quilt means a lot to me, as I just got married (in a wedding chapel) on April 10, 2012.  It was so romantic & the quilt really reflects upon my wedding day.  Please also note my name has changed to Jennifer Schifano Thomas.

Of course, I invited Pepper Mint on my honeymoon.  She travels everywhere with me.  She just can't stand to miss out on anything.  So, to win an issue of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 5, leave a comment, guessing where Pepper Mint is vacationing in the above photo.  I will randomly pick a winner from the correct answers. I will also be sending the winner a couple of surprises from the Curlicue Creations Shop. Good Luck!  Please be sure to also visit all the other dazzling blogs on the tour this week.  I know I will be - it's so much fun!

Until next time...please visit the Curlicue Creations Shop, and have a super day!

Jennifer

  23. I like polka dots. The block quilt is really cute. That is what I would be making with my copy of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 5 issue. I also got married in a chapel in Nevada, 22 years ago. It looks like a cabin in Nevada or maybe even Colorado. Could be either one, because of the mountains. Thank you for giving us all a chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The Smokies? Congrats on the wedding, and the block. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. it looks like you enjoyed a vacation near the mountains. It's not the Poconos. Our mountains are softer at the top, not as jagged as those you are showing. Too bad only the correct answers get a chance to win, so I know I won't win here.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Definitely the Smokies. How about Tennessee?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  92. Well I will go with everyone else and guess smokey Mountains. Haven't traveled that much.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I'm not even trying to guess where the mountains are. If they had snow on them I'd say Colorado. How fun that you went from testing to designing a block. Volume 5 was my first time testing. I didn't know there was a 'term limit' and I would have to retire after 3 years. :( It is way fun!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I'm guessing those are the Blue Ridge Mountains, so maybe, Virginia?

    ReplyDelete
  95. From Australia, what shall I guess? Are the Rocky Mountains too big of an area? But I always wanted to walk the Appalachian trail, Pepper Mint doesn't look like a back-packer so not that one. If I go any further I will go dottier (is that a word?) than your blocks - love the flower centre in one.

Thanks for the sunny, spring, green giveaway.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  106. Looks like she is in the mountains at a cabin

    ReplyDelete
  107. I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia (Blue Ridge Mtns)....and that scene is reminiscent of here or it could easily be the Smokies in TN. That's a hard one in order to be entered!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Congratulations on your wedding and having a published block. Being in Australia I really have no idea where the photo is taken, although I assume you honeymooned in your home state. However, it looks really beautiful and looks a bit like our "Blue Mountains" in NSW...so perhaps you travelled to Little Hartley, NSW Australia?
