Hello! Welcome to my little corner of the Island Batik Try a Tool blog hop. This is what I made, the Orchid table runner.

For this blog hop, I was pleased to use this glorious new fabric collection, Fancy Feathers, by Kathy Engle, for Island Batik. I love all colors, but purples are my favorite. This collection sings to my heart.
If you love it as much as I do, these should be in your local quilt shop now. Also, I will be giving away a charm pack of my leftovers from this project at the end of this post.
For the "Try a Tool" part of the challenge, the Island Batik Ambassadors were given different rulers by Studio 180 Design. I received Split Recs. It makes the type of unit shown above, in many different sizes. We were required to make a project with at least 30 units. The Orchid table runner has 64 Split Recs units.
I am not much of a ruler gal, but I have to admit, once I got the hang of how this ruler works, the units came together easily.
The Orchid block. It's not perfect. I paper pieced the center section. I think it would have matched up a little better if I had the Corner Beam ruler for the center part.
I had a nice variety of matching Aurifil thread for the quilting. I also had just enough Hobbs 100 Percent Cotton batting and solid gray Island Batik fabric left on my quilting frame from my last project to quilt this table runner. How lucky!
I used my favorite Schmetz needles for the piecing and quilting. The borders were cut with my Accuquilt strip dies. Designed in EQ8. Here's a few glamour shots of the finished project.

The gray backing. You can see my not perfect, but always trying to improve quilting.
I love the way this binding came out. The little curves on the fabric fit perfectly.
