January 2015 UFO Challenge

 For the year 2015, I'm challenging myself to finish one UFO project each month.  For January I'm working on the South Shore Road quilt.

  

I started this quilt about 10 years ago.  Hee-hee!

My pattern for this quilt appeared in Quiltmaker Magazine as a series quilt waaaaaay back in 2006.

I've just finished hand quilting it and am working on the binding, sleeve and label now.  I know it's going to feel so good to finish.  

I've also extended this challenge to the members of my Facebook group, Quilters Show and Tell.  It's been so much fun motivating each other to finish our projects.  If you would like to join in, please let me know.  All quilters are welcome.  Hopefully at the end of January we'll have some fantastic finishes to share!

I've been super busy over the holidays.  It's been a while since my last post.  We had two birthdays, Christmas, winter break from school, a science fair project, and New Year's.  What a whirlwind!  Happy New Year!  Welcome to 2015.

Liberty Coins Cat Quilt Block Pattern

It's finally here.  The twelfth and final installment in the Basket Cat quilt block series - Liberty Coins Cat.  

The Liberty Coins Cat Quilt Block is a foundation piecing pattern.  Such a cute little kitty, peeking over the basket edge.  You could customize the cat by using the fabrics of your choice for the fur and eyes.  Sew a few to match your own furry family members!  

I chose to make my Liberty Coins Cat a bit of a rebel.  I added a little kitty "mohawk" on top of his head.  It was fun to quilt all those little spikes.

Here's the quilt I made, featuring all twelve of the Basket Cat patterns.  These patterns are fun to collect, and a steal at only $3.00 each.  You could sew pillows, a table runner, a small wall hanging, or a full size quilt.  My family uses this quilt to cuddle on the couch by the fire in the evenings.  I made it wider than it is long, so we could have more "snuggle room".  See all of the Basket Cat patterns in my shop, at this link:  Quilt Block Patterns.  Mix, match, and make something adorable!

My boys are so creative.  In this photo, Levi has covered Trent with a huge gob of quilting scraps.  They both look happy.

In this photo they have collaborated to cover William the cat with fabric scraps.

Sometimes I think William is the most patient cat in the universe.

Star Block of the Month Border One

Sorry I've been so slow getting my top together.  I just finished sewing border one onto my quilt.  I used the same medium brown fabric as I did for the sashing.  The second border will be a striped border using all of the fabrics from the blocks.  Border three will be a thick dark brown.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Curlicue Creations Star BOM.  The patterns for all of the blocks can still be found by clicking on the Star Block of the Monh Tutorial tab at the top of the page.  If you sew a block, or a quilt from one or more of these blocks, please send me a photo!  I would love to do a quilt parade here on the blog featuring all the quilts in the future.
