Here a Hexie, There a Hexie

This week I pulled out my Accuquilt Go and did some taming of the scrap bin.

I like to cut my scraps into hexagons.  I use the smallest size on the Accuquilt Hexagon die.

I do all the basting prep work while watching TV or front porch sitting.

Then, the hexagons are sorted by color and put into zipper bags or, a cross stitch floss box.

This is Aura, the first hexagon quilt I've completed.

I'm working on The Rainbow Connection, a completely improv quilt.
I have some more ideas in my head for other hexagon quilts.  I may begin another one before finishing The Rainbow Connection.  We'll see...

The Rainbow Connection Update

Oh kitty!  See Shadow doing a photo bomb in this pic?  How considerate of him to stay off the quilt top.  This is getting so exciting!  I'm almost finished filling in the corners.  I might finish that bit tonight.  What are you working on?

The Rainbow Connection Update

I've been back to it, sewing on my hexie project again.  I'm almost finished making it back into a huge hexagon by adding blue hexies in the star corners.  Next, I'm considering filling in the corners to make a big square and finishing it off.  What do you think?  All hexies are 3/4" per side, cut out with my Accuquilt Go, and made from my scrap basket.

The Rainbow Connection Update ~ 09-26-18

After a day's worth of sitting at the computer writing a new quilt pattern, it felt good to get out in the sunshine and take an updated photo of the Rainbow Connection hexie quilt.  Ahhhhh.....outside!

Aura Hexagon Quilt

I was editing some older photos last week when I realized I have never written a post about my completed Aura hexagon quilt!  What?  How did that happen?  I wrote lots of in progress posts, but somehow missed out on the big one.  Here it is, Aura, complete and flying freely on the clothesline, enjoying a little sunshine.

Take a step closer for more detail.  This quilt was created over a period of two and a half years.

Take a step closer and you can see the swirly quilting.
The hexagons in this quilt are 3/4" per side.  I challenged myself to only use fabrics from my scrap basket.

Take a step closer and you can see the pretty thread colors.  I changed thread often, trying to match the hexagon colors as I quilted.

I used this fun dotty fabric for the backing.  I think it is a good complement to the hexagons and the playfulness of the design.

Aura

Quilt Stats:
Quilt Size:  45" x 45"
Hexie Size:  3/4" per side
Fabric:  From my scrap basket
Batting:  80/20 Cotton/Poly Blend
Thread:  Superior King Tut, various colors
