A Piece of Blog Hop featuring Wild Tuba Party in the Woods

Hello!  Welcome to my day on the Island Batik A Piece of Blog Hop.  This is my quilt, Wild Tuba Party in the Woods.  The fabric for this quilt was generously given to me by Island Batik at the beginning of this year.  I've had to keep it a secret all this time!  It's been tough to do.

Half of the Island Batik Ambassadors are participating in this hop.  By visiting all the blogs you can get to know all the new Island Batik fabric lines, see everyone's fabulous creations, and enter some giveaways, too.  I'll have a giveaway at the end of my post today.

Here's the Tweet fabric collection.  It's designed by Barbara Persing and it will be available in your local quilt shop in December.  If you don't see Island Batik fabrics in your local shop, ask for them!

This is one of my favorites!  I love how the bright rainbow of colors pop through the dark background.  I used a lot of this fabric in my quilt.

One of the other features I love about this collection is the black and white prints.  I used them all in my quilt.  They add a fun punch to complement the rainbow of colors in this group of fabrics.

Look at this amazing aqua blue fabric!  It's one of my favorites.  I'll be sure to use it in another project in the future.  So very yummy!

My blocks were inspired by another quilt I made in the past, Polka Party.  I changed the center square to a four patch and added another black border, the skinny one.  The Polka Party quilt had a lot of appliqued circles and flowers, but that was too busy for this already wild party of a quilt!

I needed to showcase all of the fabrics in the Tweet collection.  To do this I used placed the cool colors (blues, greens, purples) in the same patch location in each block and the warm colors (pinks, oranges yellows) in the other patch locations in each block, too.  I spread the black and white fabrics out evenly throughout the quilt.

I paired up the cool and warm colors randomly, so each block was a fun surprise to sew.  This is one of my favorites.  I pieced my quilt with Aurifil thread in various colors to match the fabrics.

I didn't have a lot of time left for quilting, so I did a loopy meander, my go-to quilting design when I'm in a hurry.

I used Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 Bleached Cotton Batting for this quilt.  It quilted like butter.  Loved it.

Example of the quilting.

I take a lot of photos when I'm working on a quilt project.  Sometimes they lead to new quilt design ideas.  I'm going to play with this one.  It may become part of a future quilt.

I really love the color combo on this block too!

I bound my quilt using this pretty yellow dot fabric.  It matches the outer border.  I used it on the blocks and cornerstones too.

How did this quilt get the name "Wild Tuba Party in the Woods"?  This is the woodsman.  Legend has it that once a year he goes deep into the woods (on his birthday), hires a live band, and parties long into the night.  One by one the musicians drop out as they become exhausted from the wild partying, until the only one left standing is the tuba. The tuba is then traditionally shot (just the tuba, not the tuba player), and the party is over.  Afterwards the neighborhood gets to sleep blissfully for the rest of the night.

The other 364 days of the year, the woodsman is hard at work, chopping firewood for the winter.

Each week of the hop Island Batik is giving away a bundle of fabrics from one of the new collections.  This week's giveaway is the Islander fabric collection.  It looks like a peaceful seaside to me.  Beautiful!  I would love to sew something with these!
