Spring has arrived in my little corner of the world. Along with the first daffodils of the year, the February Quilty Box arrived, too.
This month's box features Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts. Awesome! When I think of Julie Herman, I think "Modern", "Hexagons", and "Solid Colors".
Julie's Sidekick ruler was inside this month's box. As you will see later in my post, I tried this ruler, and it is both amazing and easy to use. You can easily cut diamonds, 60 degree triangles, and half triangles with this ruler. The resulting shapes fit together for piecing perfectly.
Also inside this month's box is this gorgeous bundle of Kona solids! Ten different colors, including large cuts of black and white.
Julie's Rock Candy table topper pattern! Super cute. Enough fabric is included to make both this pattern and a second table topper pattern, the Nova, inside the Bundles of Inspiration booklet.
A small spool of Aurifil thread in versatile gray. Perfect for piecing or quilting just about anything.
I decided to make the Nova table topper, so I could try out the Sidekick ruler. Here I am cutting diamonds. See how nicely the fabric lines up?
Here I am cutting the half triangles. Notice how the annoying triangle point is non-existent? This really helps to fit the pieces together just right.
I sewed pairs of gray and white half triangles together. The seams were pressed open. Aren't they cute?
Two pairs of diamonds, sewn together. See how nicely they line up and fit together, too? Easiest diamonds I've ever sewn!
This is my progress to date on the Nova Table Topper. I'm lovin' it! I still need to sew a white border around the edges and quilt it, but you can see the whole design. This will look fabulous on my kitchen table, as my table and chairs are the exact medium shade of green in the table topper. I hope I have some time to finish it this week.
