Purple Passion Quilt

 Today I'm showing the Purple Passion quilt.  This quilt features curvy paper pieced blocks with a matching border of squares and triangles.

Quilt Stats:

Quilt Size:  82-1/2" x 94-1/2"

Block Size:  12" x 12"

Fabric: Tonga Batiks and Pop, by Timeless Treasures
Batting:  Warm 100, by the Warm Company
Thread:  King Tut, by Superior

These are the beautiful fabrics used in the Purple Passion quilt. The quilt top features four purple batiks and one charcoal fabric.  The second from the bottom is the backing fabric.

The Purple Passion block features paper foundation pieced curved sections alternating with the charcoal fabric.

In this photo you can see the border.  The border echoes the curved block design with pieced squares and triangles in the same color sequence.  You can also see the swirl quilting design.  I only quilted over the charcoal fabric, using a matching thread.

Here is a photo of the Purple Passion quilt on my bed.  It fits well!  I have a King sized bed.  This would drape over the sides nicely on a Queen size, too.

Quadrille Quilt

Today I'm showing the Quadrille quilt.  This quilt features big, 16" blocks, and a gorgeously bright, modern fabric palette.

Quilt Stats:

Quilt Size:  78-3/8" x 101"

Block Size:  16" x 16'

Fabric:  Spectrum by V & Co. for Moda

Batting:  Warm 100 by the Warm Company

Thread:  King Tut by Superior

  

This is Block A.  It has a fun 3D look to it, due to the color value placement of the fabrics.  

The Spectrum fabric collection lends a playful, geometric look to this design.

Block B really showcases the turquoise blue triangle fabric.  It looks almost like a cut gemstone, set in the center of the block.

Block C is just a different color version of Block B.  The cutting and piecing is all the same, it's just a little bit toned down to complement the other two blocks in the quilt.

The blocks are set on point, and finished with side and corner triangles that match Block C's coloring.  A simple double border of pink and gray completes the look of the Quadrille quilt.

GPS Quilt

Hello there!  Today I am going to show my GPS quilt.  The pattern for this quilt appears in the Fall 2015 issue of Modern Quilts Unlimited, available now.  

This quilt was really fun and easy to sew, with all straight seams and bright fall colors.  I wanted my color palette to evoke the feeling of  bright Autumn leaves popping out against a cloudy gray sky.

The arrows pointing in different directions gave the quilt it's name, GPS.  My husband can't go anywhere without his GPS, and it seems it is always "recalculating".  Ha!ha!  So in summary, this quilt is like driving around the countryside on a brisk and cloudy day in Autumn.  You may not know exactly where you are, but it is a lovely drive, nonetheless.

I played with the blocks on my design wall while I was stitching this quilt and came up with these three other interesting designs I may use in future projects.  I love my design wall.  I cannot remember what I did before I had one.  It has become an essential part of my sewing process.

My favorite feature of the GPS quilt is the way the gray swirly quilting stands out against the black arrows.  I'm lovin' it!  I used Superior's King Tut thread in a solid gray to get these gorgeous results.

Here's another angle shot of the GPS quilt on my bed.  It's a tiny bit narrow for my bed, but just perfect for couch cuddling with my boys on these chilly Fall evenings.
