This is the quilt I made for this month's
Island Batik Ambassador challenge, Gifted. Isn't it cute? I loved making this quilt.
Disclaimer: The products used to make this quilt were given to me by Island Batik and Industry Sponsors.
Our challenge was to make a quilt using the "surprise" fabric collection we received in our January boxes. I used all 20 of the fabrics in my quilt. Requirements were paper piecing, lap size, and a holiday celebration theme. Many of the ambassadors got creative with their holiday celebration theme. It's been fun. I even learned about a new holiday, Frog Jumping Day.
The fabric collection I received is Woodland Holiday. It's red, green and gold. It features reindeer, snowflakes, and holly. It is a beautiful collection. I felt compelled to make a Christmas themed quilt. I searched EQ8 for paper pieced block ideas. I was excited and inspired when I saw how many different present blocks EQ8 has. I chose 12 different blocks for my quilt and also used an EQ8 layout for the top. I love the way the tilted blocks came out! They are so much fun.
I pressed all my fabrics with my new
Oliso iron. It was super for pressing everything flat while I worked on paper piecing the blocks.
Schmetz needles and
Aurifil thread sewed through everything perfectly. I was able to use one needle for the paper piecing of all 12 blocks.
Here is one of the first blocks I pieced. I love the way the pieces are large enough to show the beautiful designs in the Woodland Holiday fabric collection.
Look at how pretty this fabric is!!!
Here are six of the blocks up on my design wall.
When I finished putting the top together, I chose
Hobbs 80/20 Bleached Cotton for the batting because the quilt top has so much white in the background. This will help keep it bright.
I chose
Aurifil thread, color #4653 for the quilting and did my usual all over loopy meander.
A quilted present. I wonder what is inside? Probably a quilt ~ LOL!
Presents on parade!
While this quilt was in the binding stage, my three sons and my daughter-in-law spent Mother's Day with me. It was so nice to have them all together. I showed them my quilt, and my oldest son quickly laid claim to it. I told him he can have it for Christmas!
Loopy meander quilting in the border.
I used a variety of the red fabrics to make the binding and backed my quilt with two different light gray Island Batik fabrics from my stash.
Binding close up! I used nearly every bit of the red fabrics from the Woodland Holiday collection in this quilt.
