June UFO Binding Question

Mulberry Square was my quilting UFO challenge project for the month of April.  I quilted the whole 99" x 99" square top.  Because the quilt has a scrappy look to it, I approached the quilting with a scrappy theme, too.  I used up all my leftover bobbins, and quite a few spools of quilting thread that were previously almost empty.   I intend to complete this quilt for my June UFO challenge.

Yesterday, I spent all of my sewing time weaving in the loose thread ends.  I never do this as I quilt along.  I always wait until the end and do it all at one time - ugh!  So tedious!

Here's a little pic of the quilt back.  The back is pieced.  When the quilt is complete, I'll try to get a photo of the whole back up for you to see.  I like this pic, because you can see a lot the quilting designs I experimented with on this quilt.

Now on to my problem!  I usually match the binding fabric to the outer edge fabric on my quilts.  Because this is such an old UFO, I'm sure I don't have any more of that fabric.  What color fabric should I use?  Should I try to get as close as possible to the outer border color, or punch it up with something else?  This quilt has a lot of gold, purple, green, and blue.  Help!!!  I need suggestions!

Until next time...please visit the Curlicue Creations Shop...and have a super day!

  1. Your Quilt is beautful!!! I think, any color would work, since it is scrappy. Or you could try and match something to the last border on your quilt.

    1. Thank you, Annette. I do usually try to match the binding to the outer border, but I am plum out of that fabric, and I don't seem to have anything close to it in my stash. I had to put this aside to finish a deadline project recently, and am embarassed to say, I still haven't done the binding!

  2. Very pretty. There are so many different colors you could use. A dark green would be kind of dramatic looking. . Purple would be a pop of surprise. Can't wait to see what you choose. Love your quilting on the back.

    1. Thank you for your comment and suggestions, Siouxzq64. Either a dark green or a luxurious purple would look amazing. Maybe even some kind of purple/green print would be interesting. Have a lovely day!
