This is the Postcard quilt, one of my newest patterns. It's featured in the Island Batik catalog. This pattern is available in my Etsy shop. and in select quilt shops across the USA. I used Island Batik's new Silverado Canyon fabric collection to make this quilt. Island Batik provided the fabric for this project.
The Postcard quilt is made using two variations of this block. It is a simple, yet lovely block to sew. This is a good project for newbie sewists, and a fun one for more advanced quilters looking for a quick finish.
The blocks make a pretty X where they come together. I used Aurifil thread to quilt an allover loopy meander. I also used Hobbs batting and Schmetz needles or this project.
The azaleas were in full bloom when I took the Postcard quilt's photo session. Very different from this freezing winter day!
Postcard quilt draped on my front steps.
The backing fabric is a coordinating gray, also by Island Batik. The binding is a deep blue fabric from the Silverado Canyon collection.

This month's Island Batik Ambassador challenge was to make a Christmas Stocking.
Disclaimer: The products used to make this stocking were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.
I was inspired to use the Emperor's Treasures strip pack and the dark coordinate, Merlot, that I received in my Island Batik Ambassador second shipment for 2022.
Though the purples and lime green are not very traditional Christmas colors, I love the rich look of them paired with the dark purple Merlot coordinating fabric. The first thing I did was cut 2-1/2" strips of the dark purple and sew them together with some of the strips from the Emperor's Treasures pack.
Next, I sub cut crosswise 2-1/2" strips, and sewed them together to make this checkerboard pattern.
I made a quilt sandwich with Hobbs fusible batting and more of the dark purple Merlot fabric for the lining. I wanted the quilting thread to stand out and add to the design so I used this beautiful Light Yellow 1135 thread from Aurifil.
I don't have any Christmas decorations up yet, so I took this photo outside in an evergreen tree. I love the way this project came out!
Christmas Stocking Stats:
Fabric: Emperor's Treasures strip pack and Merlot by Island Batik
Thread: Light Yellow 1135 by Aurifil
Batting: Fusible by Hobbs

I still have a lot of strips left from the Emperor's Treasures package, and I have another project in the works, pairing them with the other coordinating fabric. It's coming along nicely. I'll be showing that one soon, too.

This is my newest published work, the Tinder Box quilt. It's a cuddly throw, perfect for the crisp Autumn evenings that will be coming up soon.
Disclaimer: The fabric used to make this quilt was provided by Island Batik.
The Tinder Box quilt and pattern are featured in the new Quilter's World Autumn 2022 issue. There are so many beautiful Fall sewing projects inside. I do love Fall. It's my favorite time of the year. Order your copy here: Quilter's World Autumn 2022, or look for it in your local quilt shop.
I used Island Batik's new Moonlight Hollow fabric collection for this quilt. This fabric is designed by Kathy Engle. You may be able to find precuts in quilt shops now, and yardage should be out by September. It's the perfect fall fabric collection with pumpkins, ravens, curly vines, and the colors ~ Wow! Well, you can see for yourself. These fabrics are even more beautiful in person.
The Tinder Box block is pretty simple. These large sized blocks come together quickly.
The stars in the sashing add to the Fall nights feeling. Snuggle under this quilt by a campfire under the stars. Pass the s'mores.
I quilted an allover loopy meander design to finish my quilt.

This is my newest published work, the Amber Glow quilt.
The Amber Glow quilt and pattern are featured in the new McCall's Quilting September/October 2022 issue. You can purchase a digital copy online here: McCall's Quilting Digital Edition. It will also be available for purchase in quilt shops beginning on July 19th.
The Amber Glow quilt is mostly paper pieced. If you love paper piecing, this project is for you!
Here is one of the paper pieced sections before trimming. I used Island Batik's upcoming Simply Southwest fabric collection. This should be arriving in local quilt shops in August or September. Isn't it lovely for a fall quilt?
Like I said, lots of paper piecing! Look at how high this stack of pieced and trimmed sections is!
When I sew two paper pieced sections together I like to use binder clips to keep the edges lined up.
Here's what the blocks look like together ~ sideways. They have a kind of 3D spinning look to them.
