Island Batik Triathlon Quilt

Disclaimer:  The fabrics for this quilt were given to me by Island Batik at no cost to me.
This summer I made this Island Batik Freedom Fabric String quilt.

It was made with two packs of Island Batik's Freedom Batiks 2-1/2" strips.  These fabrics are gorgeous!  If you like sewing red white and blue quilts the Freedom Batiks collection is for you.  The colors are vibrant and true.

It was a quick to piece string style quilt.  I sewed my blocks in a mostly random fashion by mixing up the strips.  It was a fun surprise to see how each individual block turned out as I finished them.

I pieced most of the blocks for this quilt while we were on a family trip to North Topsail Beach.  The beach is so quiet and peacefully uncrowded there.  Our cottage is in a small coastal town ten minutes from the beach, right next to Camp LeJeune.  The Marines use the road our cottage is on constantly and helicopters and other military aircraft fly overhead.  My boys love it.  It seemed like a perfect setting to be sewing with the Freedom fabrics.

Here's a group of the blocks together so you can see the fabrics a little closer and the fun randomness they created, while still showing a pattern through the white lattice strips.

This quilt was gifted to Jessica Rocheleau, a former member of the Triathlon Gold team.
