Today I'm featuring the Paper Trail quilt. This quilt and pattern appear in the May/June 2017 issue of Modern Patchwork magazine.
Quilt Stats:
Size: 48" x 60"
Block Size: 12"
Fabric: Compositions, by Moda
Batting: The Warm Company
Thread: King Tut, by Superior Threads
All the blocks in this quilt are constructed in the same way. The same dark fabric is used in every block. The same light fabric is used in every block, A different gray is paired with both the dark and light fabrics in each block to give the quilt a dynamic feel. The piecing is easy, but required a lot of attention to place the values correctly throughout the quilt.
I had a lot of fun playing with the blocks on my design wall. There were so many different possible combinations! It was also interesting to sew a black, white and gray quilt for the first time. I'm a huge fan of color, usually the more the merrier, so this was a big step outside the box for me.
Can you see the quilting in this photo? I've followed the zigzag lines of the quilt, filling in each zigzag stripe with a different quilting design. Some swirls, some wavy lines, some circles. The quilting was really fun and free form. No quilting rules here.
If you want to sew your own Paper Trail quilt, it's in the May/June 2017 issue of Modern Patchwork magazine, available at your local quilt shop now. If you sew a quilt, please share a pic ~ I would love to see it!
Be creative ~ sew something today!
