Spring Market Quilt and Pattern ~ New!

This is the Spring Market quilt.  It's one of my new patterns this year.  This quilt is featured in the Island Batik catalog.  The pattern is available in my Etsy shop and select quilt shops across the USA.

Disclaimer:  The fabrics used to make this quilt were generously given to me by Island Batik.
I used the Mountain Gems fabric collection by Kathy Engle for Island Batik.  I just love the gorgeous blues and greens in this collection.  The designs on the fabrics are equally awesome.  Do you see the curly vines?  That one is my favorite.  This fabric is available in quilt shops now.

The main block for this quilt is a star with an on-point nine patch in the center.  These are really fun to sew.

Trail Mix did a little photobomb while I was taking pictures.  I'm sure she is wondering what this quilt is doing hanging on the outside of the house.  That's not where they belong.  How can she cuddle it like this?

The star blocks are set in blue sashing with checkerboard cornerstones.  A classic look.  The checkerboard is also featured in one of the quilt borders.

I quilted Spring Market in an all-over loopy meander.

Summer Breeze Quilt in the New Quilter's World Summer 2022 Issue and Giveaway

This is my newest quilt, Summer Breeze.  It's sewn in soft yellow and blues, like sunshine and blue skies.

The Summer Breeze quilt and pattern appear in the new Summer 2022 issue of Quilter's World magazine.  This issue is on sale now ~ run out and get one today!  If you're feeling lucky, I'll be giving away a digital copy of this magazine at the end of this post.

I used Island Batik's Honey Blue fabric collection, plus their solid white to make the Summer Breeze quilt.  This fabric should be available in local quilt shops now.

The blocks are sewn using an easy strip piecing method.  This pattern plays well with precut 2-1/2" strip packs, or cut your own from yardage.

Sunrise has become my number one tester for quilt comfort.  He appears to approve of this stack of blocks.

I quilted the Summer Breeze quilt with a loopy meander in White Aurifil thread.  It was the last of my big white thread cone.  That did last for a long, long, time.  I need to get another one.  I also used Hobbs Thermore batting for this quilt.  It's very lightweight and perfect for a summer quilt.

Plumeria ~ Flower of Sicily ~ Italian Color Builder Challenge

This is Plumeria ~ Flower of Sicily.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this project were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.
It's my Island Batik Ambassador challenge quilt for March.  For this challenge, Aurifil thread supplied each of the Ambassadors with a Color Builders thread collection.  Each collection represents a different region of Italy.
I chose Sicily Yellow, partly because my family has roots in Sicily, and partly because I love these sunny bright yellows.  The three threads in this collection are 2105, 2115, and 1135.  They are all 50wt cotton.

I had a tough time choosing a subject for this project.  There was so much to choose from!  Ideas I considered included an aerial map of the island, a cliffside town, something that represents my family, one of the historic temples, mountains, and the sea.  When I discovered that Plumeria is the official flower of Sicily with it's beautiful yellow center, I knew immediately that this was to be the subject of my quilt.

I designed my quilt in EQ8.  I used fusible applique and Island Batik solid white for the bloom of the flower.  The center of the flower was thread painted with all three shades of the Sicily Yellow Color Builder thread collection.  I used the lightest color for the detail lines on the petals.

The leaves were cut from two green Island Batik Foundations fabrics, Jungle, and Bluegrass.  I used a Schmetz Super Non Stick Needle for both the thread painting on the flower and the vein details on the leaves.  This type of needle is excellent for fusible applique projects. I used two different Aurifil threads for the leaf details, 2845, a medium green for the lighter leaves, and 5011, a golden tan for the dark leaves.

I used another Island Batik foundation fabric for the background.  This beautiful blue reminds me of a summer blue sky.  I bound this quilt with Island Batik solid yellow to evoke the feeling of a sunny summer day.  I free motion quilted swirls on the blue background with a light gray Aurifil thread.  Hobbs Fusible Batting was used in this project.  I like it for small quilts that I will be thread painting/quilting on my Janome Memory Craft sewing machine.  It holds the layers together so nicely and no pins are needed.

Mill House Spring Quilt

This sweet pink and white Mill House Spring quilt is available for purchase in my Etsy shop.

This quilt is quilted with matching color thread in pebbles, back and forth lines, and onion swirl motifs.

This quilt would be a lovely soft focal point in any room as a wall quilt.

The 41" x 49" size also makes it great for traditional use as a baby or lap quilt.

The Mill House Spring quilt features a sweet and pretty in pink traditional hourglass design framed with gold and green borders.

This quilt includes a hanging sleeve so it can be used as wall decor if desired.

All fabrics, thread, and batting are high quality 100% cotton.

The back of the quilt is a small scale pink print fabric that coordinates with the pinks in the quilt top.

This quilt was designed, stitched, and quilted in the Curlicue Creations studio by me.

A pattern is available if you wish to sew your own Mill House Spring quilt.  Click here to purchase a paper pattern.  Click here to purchase a PDF instant download pattern.
