It's been a while since my last update on The Rainbow Connection. Here it is, laid out on my patio. Funny how hard it is to hang a star shaped top up to get a photo. That just wasn't working out. As you can see, all the star arms are completed. I'm filling in the corners with stripes of black and more rainbow.
This is Block Three for the Supernova quilt. I love it! The drama of the bright batiks mixed with the black really packs a punch.
I sewed four Block Three's for the Supernova quilt.
Here are all of the blocks sewn together. Just lovely. See how the light eminates from the center of the quilt? It really draws the eye, and even though this quilt is a riot of bright colors, when I meditate on it, I get a calm, peaceful, happy feeling. Do you feel it?
I'm currently working on the borders, and the quilting shall begin next!

Today I'm showing the Pioneer Rose quilt. This heirloom style quilt features the beautiful Pioneer Rose applique block, set on point, and paired with the unique Curved Chain Block.
Quilt Stats:
Quilt Size: 61" x 61"
Block Size: 12" x 12"
Fabric: Liberty Gathering, by Primitive Gatherings, for Moda
Batting: Warm 100, by the Warm Company
Thread: King Tut, by Superior
The Curved Crossing block in navy blues, white, and beige gives this quilt a strong visual impact. The curves add a little spice to an otherwise ordinary block.
The Pioneer Rose applique block is also a crossing design.
I used the fusible applique method for my blocks, but these could be sewn using any applique method you desire. This photo shows the block before zigzagging around the patches.
I used matching thread, except for the beige leaves. I used the navy thread on the beige leaves to help them stand out against the light background.
I echo quilted around the applique patches and did a simple loopy meander over the balance of the quilt to finish it off.
The Pioneer Rose quilt is a cover girl! It is currently gracing the cover of the September/October 2017 issue of Love of Quilting magazine, available at your local quilt shop now. If you sew a Pioneer Rose quilt, please share a photo. I would love to see it!
