New Pattern! Rock the Boat

I have another new pattern to share with you today.  This is the Rock the Boat pattern, in the new Summer Fields fabric collection by Island Batik.

Summer Fields should be in your local quilt shop now.  In fact, I have one 2-1/2" strip pack of Summer Fields left in the Curlicue Creations shop as I write this.  Here's the link:  Summer Fields 2-1/2" Strip Pack  It won't last long.  Island Batik pre-cuts always sell quickly.

The Rock the Boat pattern sews a 74" x 86" quilt.  This is great for a twin size bed, or snuggling on the couch on an icy cold winter evening.

This pattern is sewn using quick and easy strip piecing methods.

Rock the Boat is fast, fun, and easy to sew.  Rotary cutting - simple, straight piecing.

I quilted Rock the Boat in an allover swirl with white Aurifil thread.  The swirl quilting gives the illusion of water and movement.

I used this beautiful blue Island Batik fabric for the back of my quilt.

I used blue for the binding, too.  This blue matches the outer border of the quilt. I like my binding to match the outer border fabric in my quilt so it blends into the edge of the quilt rather than contrasting with the edge.

Quilting and Binding a Rock the Boat Quilt

I had a little time to finish up this Rock the Boat quilt in between other projects.  I decided to swirl quilt it.  Swirl quilting kind of looks like water to me, hence it's perfect for Rock the Boat.  I started quilting the kind of swirls that fold into each other in the upper left hand corner of the quilt, but I wasn't happy with the way it was looking on this project.

I changed to these big swirls that go next to each other in rows. 

These are faster for me to quilt and I like the way they came out on this quilt.

Here's the width of the quilt before quilting.

And after.

Swirly, swirly, swirl, swirl, swirl.

Here's the quilt after quilting.  This is when I weave in any remaining thread ends.

I chose this navy blue fabric for the binding.  This fun print reminds me of confetti.  I pulled it out of my fabric stash.  Origin unknown.

I used my Janome Memory Craft to machine sew the binding onto the front of the quilt.  I'll be hand sewing it onto the quilt back during the cold winter nights while watching movies.  I wonder how many movies this one will take?

Rock the Boat Waterfall Version Quilt Homecoming

 My Rock the Boat Waterfall Version Quilt is finally home again!

 This quilt was made using the Island Batik Graphic Gems fabric collection.

 It's backed in another fabulous Island Batik fabric.  I think this fabric is called Universe?  

 This quilt features lots of fun four patch blocks.  

 The Island Batik fabrics really sparkle and shine across the quilt top.  I love purples and teals together, don't you?  

 So pretty in the kitchen morning light.

 In the Waterfall version of Rock the Boat the colors cascade down the quilt from light to dark.
