It's All Up to You ~ Flower Power Pants

Hello everyone!  This is my March Island Batik Ambassador project:  Flower Power Pants!

Disclaimer:  The products used to create this project were generously given to me by Island Batik (Lumin Fabrics) and Industry Partners.
This month's Island Batik Ambassador challenge is "It's All Up to You".  It's a free month where we can make anything we want.  So much fun!  Have you been following the Island Batik Ambassador team?  There are some amazingly creative projects this month!

For this month, I knew I wanted to use this Fusion 10" precuts pack. Originally I planned and wrote a new pattern to make a lap quilt with this fabric, but I scrapped the idea when I woke at 2 a.m. with the idea for the Flower Power pants instead.  I stayed awake the rest of the night, thinking about it, so I knew I needed to change my March project from the quilt to the pants.  I used these two flower dies from my Accuquilt collection to cut out the shapes.

I backed my fabric with fusible web before cutting.  Here are some of the flower shapes I cut for my project.

I cut shapes from all 20 of the fabrics in the Fusion collection.  The more I worked with this fabric, the more I loved it.  These fabrics make my heart happy!  My Oliso MP3 project iron worked wonderfully when I arranged and fused the shapes onto my pants.  The flowers go up each leg, front and back from the hem to just over the knee.

Once everything was fused in place, I began blanket stitching around the edges of each patch.  I used almost the entire spool of this pink Aurifil 12 wt. thread, color number 2530.

Blanket stitching is fun!

I mixed it up and used Aurifil 12 wt. thread in color number 2205 as well.  It's a light peach color that also coordinates well with this fabric collection.  It was fun to match the thread to some of the fabrics and contrast it with others.

The third thread I tried was green Aurifloss color number 2890.  I used three strands for one of the flowers, but changed to two strands for the other patches that I stitched with the Aurifloss.  They looked great either way.

It was challenging to get good photos of this project.  I'm not used to photographing garments.  Here I'm modeling them in my backyard.

The Flower Power Pants were fun to make and my second try at garment embellishment. I already have another idea for a jacket percolating in my brain.

Please be sure to visit the rest of the Island Batik Ambassador team to see the fabulous projects they made for the March It's All Up to You challenge.  Here's the list:
The Sunlit Garden blog hop winner was Joyce of Green Bay, WI.  She won a fat quarter bundle of the entire Sunlit Garden collection, and chose the Cabin Crossing pattern to go with it.  Happy Sewing, Joyce!

Hello!  Welcome to the first day of the Sunlit Garden Blog Hop.  Thanks for stopping by.  Sunlit Garden is my new signature fabric collection with Island Batik, designed by Jerry Khiev.

Disclaimer:  The fabric used to make these projects was given to me by Island Batik.
Sunlit Garden features gorgeous hues of red, green, and teal.  The designs include daisies, scattered wildflowers, speckles, and a couple more floral and foliage patterns.  There are 20 fabrics in this collection.  The Sunlit Garden fabric collection should be available in local quilt shops now.
I made five new quilts and patterns to support the Sunlit Garden fabric.  Here are my quilts:

Build a dreamy neighborhood.  Each row of houses features a different colorway from the Sunlit Garden collection, red, green, blue, and rainbow.  The houses are partially paper pieced.  This pattern can be made with 10" precuts or with yardage.  Pattern available in my Etsy shop.

The Cabin Crossing Quilt Pattern sews an 84" x 84" square finished size quilt, perfect for your bed, a housewarming gift, or a large, cuddly couch throw. The baskets are pieced with fusible appliqued handles. The floral vine border features a wavy, bias strip vine with oval flowers and alternating leaves. Pattern available in my Etsy shop.

This quilt features swirly fusible applique motifs.  When you set them together, they create a star in the center of the blocks.  This quilt can be made with 10" precuts, or yardage.  Mix and match the colors of the swirls for maximum enjoyment.  Pattern available in my Etsy shop.

The Miss Pickle Goes to Town Quilt Pattern sews a 54" x 54" square finished size quilt, perfect for wall decor, a housewarming gift, or a cuddly couch throw. This pattern is sewn using both paper piecing and curved piecing methods. This pattern is recommended for experienced quilters. This pattern includes full color step by step diagrams. Sew this stunning heirloom quality traditional pickle dish variation quilt. Curved triangle sections are paper pieced. Paper piecing experience is recommended.  This pattern is available in my Etsy shop.

Runner Up Blog Hop featuring Verdant

Hello!  Welcome to my day on the Island Batik Ambassador Runner Up blog hop.  This is my project, Verdant.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this project were given to me by Island Batik and Industry Partners.

This month, the Island Batik Ambassadors were challenged to create a runner using the new fabric collection we received in our January boxes and the Deb Tucker Studio 180 Tool we received.  It could be either a bed runner or a table runner.  I chose to make a table runner.

The fabric collection I received is Meadow Hues.  It's a signature collection for Create with Claudia.  Isn't is beautiful?  It's all purples, pinks, and soft greens.  I also used the two yard cut of light purple coordinating fabric for my top and the dark purple for the backing.  I paired the fabric with the solid black to really make the colors pop.  The Deb Tucker Studio 180 tool I received was the Tucker Trimmer along with the Magic Wand.

I sorted the Meadow Hues fabric into three piles, by color, green, purple, and pink.  This fabric should be hitting shops sometime this month, so be sure to ask for it at your local quilt shop.

I was excited to try my new Oliso Project Iron.  I used it to iron all my fabrics.  Isn't it so cute in the raspberry color?  I just love it!

The Tucker Trimmer tool can be used to make half square triangle units (HST's), quarter square triangle units (QST's), and combination units.  For my project, I made HST units, only.  You use the magic wand to mark stitching lines on the back of your fabric squares.  A chart in the directions shows you how large to cut the squares, depending on the finished size of your units.

Pair your fabric with the second color needed for your HST unit, stitch on the lines, cut apart, and iron them flat.  Each pair of squares will make two HST units.

Pressing my HST's open.

Next, following the Tucker Trimmer directions, you line everything up and trim!

Voila!  One beautiful, as close to perfect as I can get, HST unit.  I made 192 HST units for my runner.    I absolutely LOVE the Tucker Trimmer.  I will be using this tool for all my HST and QST units from now on.

I sewed the units together into twelve blocks with black Aurifil thread and Schmetz microtex needles, my favorite.

Playing with the blocks on my design wall.

I used a leftover piece of Hobbs Heirloom Premium Cotton batting and quilted with a loopy meander.

Here's a pretty picture of the backing when I was prepping to hand stitch the solid black binding. I used my Accuquilt 2-1/2" strip die to cut the binding strips.

I took my runner to the Cameron Art Museum Sculpture Park in Wilmington, NC for a photo session.

I love the way the light kisses my runner in this photo.  This is inside the Minnie Evans signal house at the desk she used to create her artwork.

Oh, there I am, along with a little breeze.  It was a nice day.

See how the colors pop against the solid black?  I used all 20 of the fabrics in the Meadow Hues collection.
