Double Irish Chain Scrap Quilt ~ A Beginning

I've had this Black Pearl strip pack by Island Batik for a while, and I finally broke it open to make a new Double Irish Chain Scrap quilt.  I love these fabrics so much, and sometimes when I feel that way it's harder to choose a project.  It's like I don't want to use it up, I just want to enjoy looking at it for a while.

Disclaimer:  This fabric was given to me by Island Batik at no cost to me.
I'm making this quilt the hard way, by cutting my fabrics all up into 2-1/2" squares and then piecing them back together instead of strip piecing.

This method will give it a scrappier look and will still show the design as long as I keep the lights, darks, and mediums in their respective value groups.

Plus, I love playing with all the squares!

I was able to cut the squares out quickly with my Accuquilt 2-1/2" square die.  You can cut out 54 squares at once.  Super fast cutting!  Slower piecing as I play with my fabric.  This is not a deadline project, so it will probably take a while to sew.  More to come soon.

  1. I'm the same way with fabric I really love, much harder to use. Black Pearl was my first "surprise" collection as an IBA so it has a very special place in my heart--and on my bed! :) Enjoy your fabric play with this one!
