Marvelous Minis Challenge featuring Pixie Garden

This is the quilt I made for the August 2024 Island Batik Ambassador challenge, Pixie Garden.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this quilt were given to me by Island Batik and Industry Partners.
This month's ambassador challenge was to make a mini quilt!  I love mini quilts.  The quilt size requirements were 24" x 24" or under.  Pixie Garden comes in at 22" x 22".  The blocks are 4" square.

I mostly used fabrics from the 1/2 yard cut bundle that came in my July Island Batik Ambassador box, plus solid black.  These fabrics are basics, blenders, and solids and are available all of the time.

I used my Oliso iron and Heat 'n Bond Lite to create fusible applique pieces for both the tulip blocks and the nine patch blocks.  These pieces were tiny!

I considered just quilting over the fused pieces, but....I decided to secure them on all edges with a small zigzag stitch in matching colors of Aurifil thread.  I think it was worth the extra effort.

Here I am zigzag stitching around the small leaves on the Nine Patch blocks. I used Schmetz Vinyl needles to zigzag stitch all of the applique shapes.  They are non stick and work great for fusible applique projects, as well as for stitching on vinyl.

I put the top together in diagonal rows with Cheddar sashing and orange cornerstones.
I used Hobbs Fusible batting for this quilt.  I did micro grid quilting on the diagonal with Aurifil Monofilament Thread in a clear color.  It was my first time quilting with monofilament thread.  I'm pleased to say it went really well.

Cascade Quilt and Pattern in Quilter's World Summer 2024

Yes, I'm behind on my blogging again. There has been so much going on this summer.  School is starting here on Monday and my last child is beginning high school.  Time has been flying by.
Today I'm showing my Cascade quilt.

Disclaimer:  The fabric used for this quilt was given to me by Island Batik at no cost to me.
Cascade is in the Summer 2024 issue of Quilter's World magazine.  The pattern is on pages 76 through 81.  You can still order a digital copy of this issue online here:  Quilter's World Summer 2024  If you are lucky, you may still find a copy at your local quilt shop, but the Fall issue is out now.  I have a fun Halloween project in that issue that I'll be posting here soon.

Let me show you this gorgeous fabric I used for my quilt.  This collection is Fairy Floss by Island Batik.  It has got to be one of my all time favorite Island Batik collections ever!!!!  Look at all those gorgeous blues, greens, purples, and pinks.  It makes my eyes happy.

This quilt features two simple star blocks in different sizes and colors.  This is Star Block A.

Star Block B.

I believe Cascade was the first quilt I finished after I moved into my new home last year.  I'm still working on finding the best places to take quilt photos.  This one is on my front porch.  There is a farmer's field across from me that had nothing in it when this was taken, but is currently full of corn.

Quilting close up.  Loopy meander quilting.  I used Hobbs Tuscany Cotton Wool Blend for the batting and King Tut Angel Lavender thread.

So lovely.

I'm all ready for fall front porch sitting!

Love's Last Kiss Quilt and NEW Pattern!

Introducing:  Love's Last Kiss.

If you are a member of my Facebook group, Quilter's Show and Tell, you probably saw this quilt yesterday.  The day's theme was Purple and Teal quilts.  If you are not a member of Quilter's Show and Tell, please join in!  It's a fun, no selling group where we share our projects and kindly help each other with quilt related questions.  We are joined together by our love of quilts.

Disclaimer:  The fabric used to make this quilt was given to me by Island Batik.
I used these four fabrics from Island Batik's Lavandin fabric collection, plus their solid white and black for the Love's Last Kiss quilt.  The fabric shown all the way on the right is the backing fabric, Peacock.  Doesn't it coordinate perfectly?  These colors are so soothing to me.

I don't have a lot of in progress photos of this quilt, as I was quickly finishing it up before I moved last summer.  I do have this one photo of it on the quilting frame, getting my go to loopy meander quilting design.

Island Batik Ambassador Unboxing, July 2024

Here's my Island Batik Ambassador unboxing video for July 2024.  Please watch to see what I received from Island Batik, Hobbs batting, Aurifil thread, and byAnnie.  I will be using these items for my Island Batik Ambassador monthly challenges for the second half of 2024.  See below for photos and descriptions of the items.

Disclaimer:  The  items in this post were given to my by Island Batik and industry sponsors Hobbs, Aurifil, and ByAnnie.
This collection is Floral Fun.  It was designed by Kathy Engle, and it is a signature collection for Lizard Creek Quilting.  I love the purple/green combination with hints of blue and white.  It's paired with two cuts of coordinating fabric, a light and a dark.  I will be using this fabric for the September blog hop.  I will be creating an applique project with this fabric collection and these beautiful coordinating threads from Aurifil.

I also received this beautiful package of 10" precut squares.  This collection is Bubbles, Curves, and Corners by Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Design.  Aren't these colors and designs pretty?  This was paired with two cuts of coordinating fabrics, one light, and one dark.

This is a half yard cut bundle of basics, blenders, and solids.  What a beautiful variety.  These fabrics are always available year round and coordinate wonderfully with the seasonal collections.  I like the colors in this group.  They are giving off a tropical vibe.

Opulent Orange 10" squares precut.  Juicy and gorgeous in a range of oranges.  I see cheddar, yellow, pale creamy peach, red orange, and crimson.  I've used this collection before and I just love it so much.

Precious Pink 2-1/2" precut strip pack.  I've used this one before too, to make a rug for my studio.  I just love it so much and I'm excited to work with these fabrics again.

Two packages of Stash Builders.  Each roll contains 4 strips, 5" wide x width of fabric.  It's a great way to increase variety in your batik stash!

Surprise!  This pretty pink wrapping contains a new Island Batik fabric collection that will be hitting quilt shops later on this year.  I will be using it for my November project and will be able to show you these fabrics then.

We are partnering with ByAnnie again this year and I'm excited to make the Payday wallet/purse pattern this time around.  This kit has everything needed to sew this project.  I will be making this in October.

This is a six yard cut of a neutral fabric.  It's a soft beige with a marbled look.

Four yard cuts of solid black, white, and dark gray.

I'm super excited with the batting selection sent by Hobbs this time.  They sent all my favorites!  Yay!  This is the fusible batting.  It's great for small projects.  The last time I had this, I used every square inch!

The 80/20 Black batting is perfect for quilts with dark backgrounds.  You don't have to worry about any white batting bearding through your quilt top, plus the black helps the colors to really pop!

The Thermore batting is super thin and works well for small lightweight projects, like wall hangings, table runners, and clothing.

This is hands down, my absolute favorite batting!  Tuscany Collection Supreme 100% Unbleached Cotton.  This batting is PLUSH!  It is so soft and thick for a super cuddly quilt.  I just love it.

Tuscany Collection Silk Blend.  This quilts beautifully and resists fold lines in your quilts.  Lovely.
Island Batik recently partnered with Missouri Star and made me an affiliate.  Have you shopped the Missouri Star website?  They truly have everything you need for your next project.  Shop through my link and get 20% off your purchase of $50 or more.  Shop Missouri Star
I may receive a small commission and you get to save $ on your order.  Thank you.

Thank you so much for watching/reading!  I'm honored to be an Island Batik Ambassador for the 7th year.  I just love being part of this program.  Thank you so much Island Batik, Hobbs, Aurifil, and ByAnnie for supplying me with beautiful, quality products to work with.  I hope my projects inspire you to sew some of your own!
