Lazy Day Quilting

Do you ever get the urge to sew something quick, easy, and a little bit lazy?  Here's a personal project I'm working on for one of my boys.  This quilt started out with a 5" charm pack of fabrics with a holiday look.

The charms were red, green, blue, and cream with bits of gold for a little dazzle.  I quickly cut more 5" charms in coordinating fabrics from my stash - nice and scrappy.  No pressure.  No worries about exact color matching.  Just fun and simple sewing.

Now that my top is sewn in a Nine Patch sort of way, I'm quilting it just as simply with row after row of medium sized swirls in a variegated thread.  Easy, relaxed, and lazy.  I'm liking it.  I'll try to get a photo of the whole quilt when it's complete.  What's under your needle today?

Don't forget, the 100 Blocks Blog Tour begins on Monday, May 1st.  My post will be on Tuesday, May 2nd.  Be sure to visit for inspiration & a giveaway.

Paper Trail Quilt

Today I'm featuring the Paper Trail quilt.  This quilt and pattern appear in the May/June 2017 issue of Modern Patchwork magazine.

Quilt Stats:

Size:  48" x 60"
Block Size:  12"
Fabric:  Compositions, by Moda
Batting:  The Warm Company
Thread:  King Tut, by Superior Threads

All the blocks in this quilt are constructed in the same way.  The same dark fabric is used in every block.  The same light fabric is used in every block,  A different gray is paired with both the dark and light fabrics in each block to give the quilt a dynamic feel.  The piecing is easy, but required a lot of attention to place the values correctly throughout the quilt.

I had a lot of fun playing with the blocks on my design wall.  There were so many different possible combinations!  It was also interesting to sew a black, white and gray quilt for the first time.  I'm a huge fan of color, usually the more the merrier, so this was a big step outside the box for me.

Can you see the quilting in this photo?  I've followed the zigzag lines of the quilt, filling in each zigzag stripe with a different quilting design.  Some swirls, some wavy lines, some circles.  The quilting was really fun and free form.  No quilting rules here.

If you want to sew your own Paper Trail quilt, it's in the May/June 2017 issue of Modern Patchwork magazine, available at your local quilt shop now.  If you sew a quilt, please share a pic ~ I would love to see it!

Lots of Love Quilted Trivet and Pattern

I finished something!  It's this country cute Lots of Love trivet/mug rug/table topper kitchen decor.  Sweet and simple, sewn with adorable gingham print pink and green fabrics.  This little quilt is 12" x 12", just the right size for a basket of hot rolls, or pan of brownies.

Here's a more direct picture.  I struggled a little with the quilting on this one, but I believe it came out okay.  I quilted simple geometric designs over the nine patch blocks and outlines around the pink hearts.  I used a white thread by Superior, King Tut.

If you would like to sew a few of these, the pattern is available in the Curlicue Creations shop, here:  Lots of Love Pattern.

An instant PDF download is available on Craftsy, here:  Lots of Love PDF Instant Download.

Both versions are only $5.00.  This is a great pattern for beginners.  You can sew this in a day ~ Really!

If you don't have the time to make one yourself, and you just want to scoop up the one I've made, it is for sale in my Etsy shop, here:  Lots of Love Quilted Trivet.

Thanks so much for reading today.  Don't forget, the Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Blog tour is right around the corner.  I'll be doing my segment on May 2nd.  Be sure to stop by for inspiration and prizes.
